Manchester United v Istanbul Basaksehir Tips: Side with Maguire in the shots market

It’s Matchday four in the Champions League with teams playing the reverse fixture to that of Matchday three at the start of November. Manchester United will be seeking revenge after a shock 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir as the pair face off at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening. The game is live on BT Sport 2, kicking off at 20:00 and our man @AnthonyEadson is on hand with three tips for the game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to make several changes to his side after the 1-0 victory over West Brom at the weekend, with Scott McTominay and Axel Tuanzebe set to come into the starting XI. Luke Shaw, Eric Bailey, Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo will miss the game through injury while Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood are still a doubt.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool players Demba Ba and Martin Skrtel should line up for Istanbul Basaksehir, with the former having scored in the memorable win in the Turkish capital three weeks ago. Former Tottenham man Nacer Chadli could also be in line for his first start of the season after returning from injury.
Having a look at the odds to win the game and Manchester United are the healthy favourites priced at just 1/4 with most bookmakers, an implied probability of 80%. A repeat of the reverse fixture with a win for the Turkish outfit is available at 12/1 with the draw being offered at 11/2.
Man United to win to Nil - 2pts @ 11/10 - BetVictor
Harry Maguire 1+ shot on target - 1.5pts @ 9/4 Paddy Power
Rashford & Ba 1+ shot on target, Skrtel & Tuanzebe to be carded - 57/1 Paddy Power
First up it’s in this trio of tips for Tuesday is Manchester United to win the game to nil, priced at 11/10 with BetVictor. Much has been made over recent weeks over the flatness of some of Manchester United’s performances, particularly at home in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have however, looked more convincing at the back and even managed to keep a clean sheet in the 5-0 demolition of RB Leipzig in this competition at Old Trafford in October.
In their last six games, United have kept a clean sheet on three occasions, against Leipzig, Chelsea and West Brom. Harry Maguire has looked much more convincing after a turbulent summer and David De Gea has looked less prone to mistakes in goal. United will want revenge here after the defeat in Turkey and with their final two group games being against Leipzig and PSG, they need to pick up the three points here. Most firms have this selection at odds-on so I’ve taken the 11/10 with BetVictor.
Next up I’m fancying Harry Maguire to have one or more shots on target at 9/4 with Paddy Power. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been impressed with Maguire over recent weeks. The England International has looked much more assured in his performances for both club and country and has also looked a threat in front of goal.
Over Maguire’s last six games for England and Manchester United the no nonsense centre-half has taken ten shots on goal. Further to that, Maguire has also landed a shot on target in each of his last two matches. Coral and Ladbrokes have Maguire to have one or more shots on target priced at 29/20, so again I’m taking the better price available, this time with Paddy Power at 9/4.
As usual, I’ve picked something out for the optimists out there and this time it’s Marcus Rashford and Demba Ba to have one or more shots on target with both Martin Skrtel and Axel Tuanzebe to be carded at 57/1
It’s been some year for Macrus Rashford and the national treasure is the first name into this Same Game Multi to have one or more shots on target. The 23-year-old is averaging well over a shot on target per game this season (1.3) and he should get plenty of chances against Istanbul Basaksehir.
Demba Ba is well known to most fans in England and after scoring against United in Istanbul, I’m backing Ba to have one or more shots on target in Manchester. The Senegalese forward is averaging 3.3 shots per game in the Turkish top-flight and he will be the main threat for the visitors on Tuesday.
The first of two players I’m including to pick up a card is Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe. The defender has picked up two yellow cards in the two games he has started for Manchester United this season. 11/2 as a single simply looks too big here in my opinion with BetVictor going 23/10.
Martin Skrtel to be carded is the final element that makes up this four-pronged punt. The former Liverpool centre-back was booked in the reverse fixture and is no stranger to picking up a yellow against Manchester United. Skrtel has six yellows against the Red Devils in his career and I think he’ll be looking to leave a bit on a few players in his return to England.
Best of luck to those following any of the selections on Tuesday evening. Enjoy the game, and please remember to gamble responsibly.
