Live on Sky Sports Main Event on Monday night, Old Trafford hosts its last Premier League fixture of the season as Brentford take the trip north to face Manchester United.
A poor season for the Red Devils as they occupy sixth place in the Premier League, failing to achieve Champions League football for next season. Losing three of their last five really put the nail in the coffin, starting with a 1-0 defeat against relegation strugglers Everton, followed by the 4-0 dismantling at the hands of Liverpool. Nine points from the last possible twenty-seven just shows how much they have struggled of late, big changes will be needed next season to see any glimmer of success. Ronaldo remains at the forefront of criticism, even though scoring seventeen goals in just twenty-eight Premier League appearances this season - only Mohamed Salah has scored more.
Manchester United vs Brentford Tips
Brentford have had a wonderful start to life in the Premier League, well on track to achieve top flight football again next season. Currently sat in 14th place and eleven points clear of the relegation zone, Thomas Frank will be delighted with what his squad have achieved. Fixtures still to come against Southampton, Everton and Leeds, they will be hopeful to pick up even more points and finish the run in strong. Currently in their best form of the campaign, their last four matches have seen wins against Chelsea, West Ham and Watford, with a 0-0 draw against Spurs last time out.
It has been a while since I have delved into the Manchester United tackle market, but facing Brentford on Monday night has brought about a generous looking line of 12.5.
When Rangnick took over at Old Trafford, the tackle output of the team increased significantly. Under Rangnick's reign, the average tackles per match for Manchester United sits just over sixteen per game, much higher than the required line here of 12.5. Twenty-six matches Rangnick has now been in charge of the Red Devils, this tackle line has won on twenty-three occasions, falling short just three times. Brentford don’t often force opposition tackles too often, with a relatively low average against, but their opposition have still cleared this line in seven of their last ten matches; and with Manchester United clearing this in twenty-three of the last twenty-six matches, the value is definitely with the overs here.
With Champions League out of the window now for Manchester United and lots of issues in the dressing room, I am siding with the inform Brentford at a huge price.
Brentford have now won five of their last seven matches, including victories against Watford, West Ham, Chelsea, Norwich and Burnley, with a 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. Those last seven matches has also seen a huge increase in their attacking output, with an average of 15.1 shots per game and considering the opposition, that’s an average only bettered by Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea.
Across those seven matches, Toney has managed to register three or more shots on five occasions, falling short with only two shots against Watford and Burnley. He managed five against Tottenham last time out, three against West Ham, six against Chelsea and three against both Leicester and Norwich. If Brentford continue with this new lease of life, they will cause problems to that shaky Manchester United defence that has now conceded in nine games on the bounce.
