Manchester City vs. Chelsea Betting Tips: Two Shots on Target selections in the League Cup

Manchester City face Chelsea in the stand-out fixture in the League Cup on Wednesday night. The game is live on Sky Sports and we’ve provided you with two tips that we like the look of.
Despite going down to 10-men against Fulham at the weekend, Manchester City still managed over 70% possession in a game they won late-on thanks to an Erling Haaland penalty. Pep Guardiola has lifted this trophy in four of the last five renewals and his side are the 1/2 favourties to win this game inside 90 minutes.
Chelsea have put in a couple of concerning performances over the last couple of weeks. The home defeat to Arsenal on Sunday now means that The Blues are behind Brighton in the table; Graham Potter’s former club.

Plenty of rotation is expected from both teams here after the chaotic schedule of the last two months. Rico Lewis and Sergio Gomez could start at the back for City with Joao Cancelo suspended and Kyle Walker out injured. Erling Haaland is not likely to be risked from the off, while Julian Alvarez may keep his place at the head of attack for the hosts.
Graham Potter may turn to the likes of Armando Broja and Hakim Ziyech on Wednesday. Chelsea have only won two of their last six matches in all competitions and they have plenty of injuries ahead of this one, with Wesley Fofana, N’golo Kante, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Reece James and Ben Chilwell still sidelined.
Manchester City vs Chelsea Tips
The first selection we have comes courtesy of William Hill who have priced up Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan to have 1+ shot on target at 11/10. In his last seven starts the German International has managed eight shots on target for City and with goals expected in this game considering Over 2.5 is trading at 8/13, there could be plenty of chances.
Chelsea have not been convincing over the past few weeks and there were even some boos knocking around Stamford Bridge against the Gunners on Sunday. This same bet for Gundogan to have at least one shot on target is priced at just 1/2 with Skybet, giving plenty of appeal to the 11/10 on show from Hills considering this has landed in six of his last seven appearances.
We’ll also be having a bit of small change on another selection from the shots on target in this game. Rico Lewis scored on his full debut for Manchester City in the Champions League against Sevilla last week and he should be given another start here considering the competition and injury to Kyle Walker.
Full-backs playing high up the pitch in attacking areas has long been a feature of Pep Guardiola’s teams and after letting off two shots against Sevilla, Rico Lewis should be confident at making those overlapping runs from the edge of the box and getting into strong crossing or shooting positions. 5/1 is on offer from both Betfair and Paddy Power for Lewis to have a shot on target against Chelsea.
