Man United vs FC Twente Prediction, Odds and Betting Tips: 13/2 Bet Builder tipped up at Old Trafford

Man United begin their Europa League campaign at home to FC Twente tonight, live on TNT Sports 1 at 8pm.

Manchester United suffered a setback when they drew 0-0 to Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend but the Europe League gives them the opportunity to bounce back quickly.  

Erik Ten Hag’s side were set to miss out on European football this season before they secured shock victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final. The win means they have another competition to aim for this season and it’s another potential pathway into the Champions League.  

FC Twente dropped down to the Europa League after crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers back in August when they were beaten 5-4 on aggregate by RB Salzburg. They will be relishing the opportunity to take to the field at Old Trafford.

My main Bet Builder for this match is Manchester United to secure all three points and for there to be 27.5 shots or fewer. 

Erik Ten hag’s men have seven points after five Premier League matches, a tally which leaves them in the bottom half. However, the underlying data paints a more promising picture. Manchester United have the third-highest xG in the division with an average of 1.92 per game. They have squandered the most big chances in England’s top flight. The Red Devils should comfortably beat FC Twente if they can find their clinical side here.  

Manchester United’s poor defensive structure was dissected in great detail last season. Their matches saw an astounding amount of shots as a result. There was an average of 32.03 shots per United game in the Premier League thanks to their structural issues. Only Sheffield United, who finished bottom, afforded their opponents more opportunities to shoot than Erik Ten Hag’s side. However, the Red Devils appear to have addressed some of those issues this season and their matches are seeing far fewer attempts as a result. 

United's league matches this season are averaging 23.6 shots. Only Ipswich and Aston Villa outings have seen fewer attempts and it is well below the Premier League average of 26.22 shots per game. There have been 26 shots or less in all five of their league matches. There were 29 shots in United’s 7-0 win over Barnsley in the League Cup but the home side racked up 26 by themselves in that one. It’s hard to envisage the Red Devils hitting a similar number here. 

In recent years, FC Twente’s European matches have also had lower shot counts. Since the start of last season, they have played eight European games and those have seen an average of 19.13 shots. This number drops to 18.5 shots in their European matches on the road.  

For my longer odds bet, I am backing Manchester United to win by at least two goals and under 25.5 shots in the match.

As previously mentioned, Ten Hag’s team have created an abundance of chances and are capable of an emphatic victory if their forwards can take their chances. 

Ten Hag’s side have played with a higher line in the early stages of this season and followed up the initial press from the forwards. This has led to their Premier League matches averaging 43.4 tackles per game, only Tottenham and Everton games have seen more. As a result, over 35.5 tackles looks a good bet here.
