Ipswich were far from disgraced in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Portman Road last weekend, although their mission to pick up points will not get any easier this weekend as they travel to the home of the Champions. Unsurprisingly, Kieran McKenna's men are massive underdogs at the Etihad and are priced as big as 30/1 with one bookmaker to get their first win.
Manchester City made light work of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last Sunday. Pep’s side are bidding to claim a fifth consecutive top-flight title and after goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic in their opener, they arrive here as the 1/12 favourites to make it back-to-back wins to kick off the campaign.
I’m once again heading to the player fouls market for my main play of the afternoon and I’m backing Axel Tuanzebe to concede 1+ foul in the match. The main angle here is that Tuanzebe will be the direct opponent of Jeremy Doku. The Belgian is one of the hardest players to defend against and last weekend against Chelsea he drew four fouls in total.
Tuanzebe may not have given away any fouls against Liverpool last weekend, but looking back at his data from last season, he gave away at least one in all of his last eight Championship matches. BetVictor have the defender priced at 1/3 to give away a foul against City, and I make the 10/11 that is on show with Sky Bet a very backable price.
Using the Bet Builder feature with Sky Bet, I’m also having a few quid on Jeremy Doku to record 1+ shot on target along with that man Axel Tuanzebe to be carded at 13/2.
Doku has cleared the 1+ shot on target line in eight of his last nine Premier League appearances and a home game against Ipswich should see plenty of chances for the hosts.
Tuanzebe has had limited game time over the last few years due to injuries, but from the beginning of the 2020/21 season, he has been shown a yellow card in 12 of his 41 starts. Odds of 9/2 as a single imply an 18% chance of this bet landing, but after being booked in 29% of starts in the last four years, I think this is another selection that holds value. Combining Doku to have a shot on target with Tuanzebe to be carded pays 13/2.
