Chelsea put in a dogged performance in their victory at Selhurst Park on Monday. After a sluggish start, the Blues rallied late with two stoppage time goals to ensure they snatched the points in the London Derby.
The first half was pretty emblematic of Todd Boehly’s reign at Stamford Bridge. A hodgepodge of possession without much purpose and when Palace got their noses in front, it looked like a familiar losing outcome was inbound for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
The character Chelsea showed will have enthused the Blues boss to no end and the manner of the victory will only stand them in good stead ahead of the trip to the Etihad on Saturday.
Manchester City were in Champions League action on Tuesday, where they were heavy odds-on favourites to prevail in Copenhagen and eventually did. It wasn’t until stoppage time when Pep Guardiola’s side put daylight between themselves and Copenhagen.
Man City vs Chelsea Tips
Chelsea are more than capable of bloodying the nose of Manchester City, which is odd to say considering the Blues transfer budget but with 18 points between the sides the visitors must be judged accordingly.
On route to the title last season, City averaged 0.87 goals against a game, this season they are shipping 1.08 goals a game and if they carried on in this porous vein, Pep Guardiola’s side would concede nine more goals.
Man City have conceded in 18 of their 23 league games this term, so at ¾ backing both teams to score appeals here.
Chelsea have hit a purple patch in front of goal, netting 10 times in their last three games.
Why change a winning bet? I touted Conor Gallagher to score at Selhurst Park on Monday and he duly obliged and then some with a brace at his old stomping grounds.
Having gone into the game without a league goal, the fact that Gallagher has now found the net three times within the space of six days (one in the cup) makes for some turnaround.
His price of 10/1 on Saturday is more of a reflection of the quality of the opposition and not this form.
Since switching position from a deep lying midfielder to a more advanced role, Gallagher has had 10 attempts. It is also worth noting he had three shots and set up one of the goals in the reverse which ended 4-4.
After a busy week of travelling, Pep’s side may be a little leggy this weekend which will only bode well for the energetic Gallagher.
Best of luck if you are backing any of these selections and please remember to gamble responsibly
