Hosts Manchester City will come into this Premier League match deflated. The manner of their defeat to local rivals Manchester United was as controversial as it was deserved.
It capped off a week in which Pep Guardiola’s side were also dumped out of the League Cup by EPL basement boys Southampton. Defeats that roused the Citizen's supremo to declare: “I don't care about the Premier League or the Carabao Cup, we cannot win.”
I wouldn’t be so despondent Pep…
Victory for the hosts here will see them to within five points of leaders Arsenal, and with United and City both on the Gunners' horizon, their eight point lead could have evaporated by mid-February.
Man City have been a little light in central defence but with Ruben Dias and John Stones both back available they are almost back to full strength. The only blemish is Kevin De Bruyne, who remains a doubt after missing training on Tuesday.
Tottenham have proved to be a bit of a bogey team for City recently.
Spurs completed the double over them last campaign, meaning they have won two-thirds of the last head-to-heads.
The odds may be stacked against them, literally, however, Antonio Conte will fancy his side's chances of bettering that stat with all his big hitters all fully fit.
An away victory would move Spurs to within two points of the Champions League spot, though they are in danger of falling out of touch.
Man City vs Tottenham Tips
As I write, not all bookmarks have priced up this market, so it may be worth shopping around here.
I may be cutting it a bit fast and loose with the word but, interestingly, Matt Doherty commits way more fouls on the road than on his own patch.
I stumbled on this when investigating Cristian Romero’s odds-against price in the same market, having been stung by him recently.
The defender has played five away games and as many home games: at home he commits an average of two fouls, away it halves to one per game.
It is the exact opposite for Doherty: at home it is 1.75 fouls per game, away it is one foul.
The takeaway from this has been pretty obvious: at home Spurs will play higher up the pitch, meaning Romero is more vulnerable, and more protected away.
It is also worth noting Doherty could be opposite Jack Grealish here, a foul magnet. The winger has drawn an average of 2.5 domestically this season.
Combining Matt Doherty 2+ fouls with him to have a shot looks worth a punt.
The wing back has racked up 10 shots in seven starts, only failing to register at least one in his side's most recent game.
Best of luck if you are backing any of these selections and please remember to gamble responsibly.
