Man City vs Brentford Tips
Man City are still strong favourites for the title, but they haven’t had it all their own way. They were reduced to 10 men in the win over Fulham last week when it looked as though they would give Arsenal further ground in the race for the title.
Mikel Arteta’s men have proven themselves to be a worthy adversary over the course of the opening months of the season. They have lost just one game coming into this weekend. Pep will know there is no room for complacency from his side; who have dominated the domestic game in recent years.
Brentford are five games without a win in all competitions and have just the one win in their last eight. They failed to score in both meetings with Man City last season so the signs are ominous heading into this one.
As you can imagine, City put the opposition under intense pressure and rarely allow them to get out of their defensive third. This leads to the other team taking a good number of goal kicks. City’s league opponents at the Etihad are averaging over 10 goal kicks per game in the league this season.
Brentford are averaging 7.57 goal kicks on the road this season, but they are yet to visit any of the ‘big 6’. They had 12 goal kicks on their trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest last week. Pep’s side should be able to force a lot here as they look to end the first part of the season on a high note.
City matches average the fewest throws in the league with 28.38 per match. However, Brentford’s matches are averaging just below 40. So there’s definitely some value in backing overs on Saturday. There were 37 and 36 throws when these teams met last season. Brentford’s away matches this season are averaging 41 throws per match.
We can 1.80 using the Bet 365 bet builder for over 28.5 throws in the match and over 8.5 goal kicks for Brentford.
Did you know that bet365 pay your team out as a winner if they go 2 goals ahead at any time in the match (available on over 80 leagues and competitions, T&C's apply). Find out more on our bet365 offers page.
For the longer odds bet, I’m going to take the same angles as the main bet, but increase the required amount of throws.
As previously mentioned, this line landed in both meetings between the sides last season.
We will also add the same goal kick line from out main bet to the longshot.
The final angle is Man City shots. Brentford have been conceding just shy of 15 shots per game away from home this season. They are yet to face any of the top teams on the road, and City should create a heap of chances here. Newcastle, Villa and Forest have had 16, 19 and 15 shots in Brentford’s last 3 away games. I see no reason why City can’t hit the 20 mark here.
