Man City vs. Atletico Madrid Betting Tips: Two bets for European pedigree friendly
In the concluding chapter of their Asia summer tour, Manchester City take on Atletico Madrid in the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Sunday 30th July at 12pm BST.
By the time this fixture comes around, Man City will be a week out from the start of their season: a Community Shield curtain raiser against Arsenal at Wembley on August 6th. The Cityzens have featured in two pre-season outings so far, chalking off a 5-3 victory over Japanese outfit Yokohama F Marinos before defeating Bayern Munich 2-1 in the first test vs elite European level opposition.
The Spaniards, on the other hand, have only dipped their toes back in, suffering a 3-2 defeat to a team of K-League All Stars in an exhibition match on Thursday. It was a game of two halves - the first of which Atletico cruised through before a dominant second half showing from the hosts toppled over the European giant.
Sizing up the match odds, City are as short as 4/9 to overcome the challenge of Atletico. Madrid represent a 28/5 shot for those who fancy a hopeful flutter, while the draw can be grabbed at 10/3 with a number of different firms.
Man City vs Atletico Madrid Tips
You don't need us to sit here and explain to you about Man City's global dominance. Pep's men finally shook the Champions League monkey off their back, completing the elusive treble last term.
Although this game is only a friendly, it's their final outing before next weekend's Community Shield fixture which is when the season truly begins. City won't want to give Arsenal any perceived advantage by winning that match, so the final preparations are key.
That means we could see Guardiola send out a team that looks a lot closer to the XI who will face Arsenal, with issuing as many minutes as possible to regular starters considered a priority.
In Wednesday's game with Munich, City broke the deadlock inside 21 minutes and held on to that slender lead heading into the break.
Expect the Premier League champions to start quick, put their foot on Atletico's throat and return to the dressing room at half-time a couple of goals to the good.
In our last match preview for City's clash with Bayern Munich, we successfully tipped up The Sky Blues to win and for both teams to score. And that's exactly where our head is at again as City complete their final off-season preparations.
This bet landed in two of the club's three pre-season friendlies last term, and has a 100% success rate in their 2023/24 warm ups too.
Madrid's 3-2 loss to the K-League All Stars clearly shows that the cobwebs have yet to be dusted off. And when you aren't at the races - pre-season or otherwise - the last team you want to be facing is a relentless juggernaut like Man City.
Atletico last failed to score on May 14th in a 1-0 loss to Elche - the club's only unsuccessful attempt to get on the scoresheet in their last nine games, including Thursday's friendly.
The side which kicked off their pre-season preparations was a strong one - Azpilicueta, Savic, Witsel, Hermoso, Koke, De Paul, Lemar, Griezmann and Morata all given the nod. Diego Simeone will field another competitive XI in at least one half here, and that should give the La Liga outfit enough juice to penetrate City's goal.
