Luton vs QPR Prediction and Betting Tips: Best bets for Friday night Championship clash

Luton Town host QPR at Kenilworth Road on Friday August 30th 2024. The Championship clash will get underway at 20:00 and the game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. 

Familiar foes Luton and QPR clash in the Championship just three days after the pair met in the EFL Cup. 

Rangers progressed via a penalty shootout at Loftus Road in midweek and the Hoops will be hoping to repeat the trick in Bedfordshire.

Both sides are still looking for their first second-tier success of the season and Luton will try to bounce back from Tuesday night’s defeat. 

Marti Cifuentes made eight chances to his QPR side for the League Cup tie, while Luton gaffer switched five players from their previous Championship contents and it’s expected that there will be plenty of alterations from the midweek starting line-ups. 

QPR and Luton served up an entertaining contest at Loftus Road on Tuesday night and more of the same looks likely at Loftus Road. 

Clearly, the midweek League Cup tie saw only two goals, but it was a contest that featured 31 efforts on goal and could have easily busted the 2.5 line.

Luton had 21 shots on the QPR goal, but the Hatters lacked a little quality in the final third, however, that can be attributed to boss Rob Edwards making five changes to the side which lost 1-0 at Preston. 

Luton had 17 efforts on goal at Deepdale, an expected goals tally of 1.64 and the Hatters have been pretty unfortunate to score only once in their last two matches.

QPR have seen the net bulge 10 times in their opening three second-tier games and, at 4/5, backing over 2.5 goals looks like the bet on Friday evening. 

Mark McGuinness headed home a goal on his first start of the season for his former club Cardiff and the Luton new boy could pose a big threat to QPR.

The centre-back is an imposing figure on set-pieces and Rangers looked pretty shaky defending Luton corners on Tuesday night. 

The Hatters put up a set-play expected goals tally of 0.78 at Preston in their latest Championship content and that tally looks likely to rise at Kenilworth Road on Friday night. 

Edwards’ men have registered 25 corners in their last two matches and a repeat of anything like those numbers should give McGuinness plenty of opportunities to find the target.
