Liverpool vs. West Ham Betting Tips: Get behind our 60/1 longshot at Anfield
Both Liverpool and West Ham managed victories to kick-off their Europa League campaigns on Thursday evening and return to domestic action by facing off in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday. We’ve asked Anthony Eadson to cast his eye over the betting markets and provide us with two tips for the game that kicks-off at 2pm.
Jurgen Klopp’s men came from behind to beat Austrian side LASK Linz in midweek. After falling behind in the first-half, goals from Dawin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohammed Salah ensured The Reds grabbed the three points. Liverpool have now won five consecutive matches across all competitions and have scored three goals in four of those.
West Ham also conceded first in their Europa League clash with Serbian outfit Backa Topola at The London Stadium. Just like Liverpool, The Hammers came away 3-1 winners after 90 minutes and they have made a strong start to the domestic season too after taking 10 points from a possible 15, leaving them sixth in the standings at this early stage.
Liverpool vs West Ham Tips
The first of two tips on Sunday is from the player fouls market where I’m taking both Virgil van Dijk and James Ward-Prowse to give away one or more in the match. At the time of writing punters can grab 15/4 on the double with Betfair or Paddy Power, with Sky Bet going just 15/8 on the same selections.
A large proportion of my reasoning behind backing van Dijk to give away a foul is due to the comments from Michail Antonio on a podcast where he stated that he believes that West Ham will finish higher than Liverpool in the league this season. I think those words will wind up both the Liverpool players and crowd and we could be in for a heated battle between two physical specimens in van Dijk and Antonio. At 13/8 as a single, van Dijk looks too big a price considering he has already been sent off this season.
I’ve also included James Ward-Prowse to give away a foul who again I think is overpriced to clear the 1+ line at 5/6. Since making the switch from Southampton to East London, JWP has conceded 1+ foul in three of his four matches and should have plenty of defensive work on the agenda for the tricky trip to Merseyside.
I’ve also had a little bit of loose change on Mohammed Salah to score, along with both Emerson and Alexis Mc Allister to be carded at 60/1. Let’s start with Salah who has three goals to his name in all competitions this season. The Egyptian has nine goals in 12 league appearances against The Hammers and can add to that tally with West Ham having failed to keep a clean sheet in eight consecutive top-flight matches.
Onto the cards and the first of two players I’ve picked out to find their way into Chris Kavanagh’s book is West Ham’s Emerson. The left-back has already been shown three yellows in just five appearances in the league so far this term and at 9/2 with Paddy Power looks an excellent price to make it four considering he will be the direct opponent of Mo Salah.
The other player I’m targeting is Alexis Mac Allister. The World Cup winner has been carded in three of his first five league matches for Liverpool and combining him with Salah to score and Emerson to also be carded pays 60/1 via the Paddy Power Bet Builder feature.
