Liverpool vs Fulham Prediction and Betting Tips: Best bets for EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Anfield
Anfield hosts the first of two League Cup semi-finals between Liverpool and Fulham, with a place in February's final at stake for the two Premier League teams involved. Tom Winch has cast his eye over the game's betting markets and pulled out two bets for you to consider.
The EFL Cup has its final four, Liverpool and Fulham meet on Wednesday night at Anfield in a clash that the home side are expected to win with relative ease. Klopp’s side are best priced at 1/3 to claim a first-leg victory, Marco Silva’s men are 13/2 in places.
No side has won this competition more than the hosts, Liverpool are odds on favourites to win the competition for a tenth time. Chelsea (6/4), Fulham (7/1) and Middlesbrough (22/1) are their challengers.
Liverpool vs Fulham Tips
I’m confident that Liverpool will win this clash, their home record is remarkable. Klopp’s men have won 13 of their 15 matches here this term, only Arsenal and Man United have left here with a positive result. Liverpool cruised to a 5-1 victory over West Ham in the previous round, I don’t expect such a dominant performance this time round, although the Premier League leaders should have just too much.
Fulham have struggled on the road this season in the top-flight, they’ve earned just six points in ten away days. They’ve lost six times away from home. Liverpool won 4-3 in the meeting at Anfield not so long ago in a crazy affair. Luis Diaz managed a whopping four shots on target that afternoon.
Luis Diaz has impressed in both matches in 2024, he was a constant threat in the win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day, the Colombian won his side a penalty and managed a shot on target. Despite Arsenal’s first-half dominance on Sunday, the second half was totally different, Liverpool turned it on and grabbed two late goals, Luis Diaz recorded three shots with two coming on target, and the third ended up in the back of the net.
With Salah absent, someone will need to step up, there’s no reason why Diaz can’t be the man to do so. He’s managed 35 shots in the Premier League this season across 1161 minutes, that’s a shot every 33 minutes. 11 of those have hit the target. The forward has started 2024 in fine form, I expect him to play a big part in what should be a home win for Liverpool.
This price just looks massive, that’s also bearing in mind that Endo is absent for the Reds due to the Asia Cup. Alexis Mac Allister has been booked five times in the top-flight this season across 15 appearances. He’s averaging a booking every 2.5 matches.
It’s a Semi-Final, so surely there’s going to be some fight, we know how Liverpool play, they throw plenty of men forward which often leaves themselves vulnerable to a counterattack. The Argentinian will be the most defensive of the midfield trio, he’ll have the job of clearing up and making things tick.
Alexis isn’t afraid to get himself stuck in, he’s made a foul in 13 of his 15 Premier League matches this season, and the midfielder has made multiple fouls in seven of those outings. The 13/2 price on offer is steep.
