Liverpool v Man City Prediction: Three bets from the top of the Premier League

Live on Sky Sports, Liverpool host the current premier league champions Manchester City at Anfield this Sunday at 4.30pm. The hosts come into this game full of confidence having dismantled FC Porto 5-1 in the champions league on Tuesday. Klopp’s men are still unbeaten in the premier league with a record of four wins and two draws. However, they will be disappointed with the draw against Brentford in their last premier league game as they let Brentford back in the game twice after going ahead and it ended 3-3.
Liverpool v Man City Tips
The visitors come into this game off the back of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League midweek but they impressively beat the current European champions Chelsea last weekend in the premier league. This is a heavyweight clash between two sides that are challenging for the Premier League title and so could be considered a six-pointer.
Manchester City came here last season and teared Liverpool apart beating them 4-1 with Gundogan netting a brace but with the fans behind them in a packed Anfield stadium, I expect a much more competitive game this time around. One thing we can be confident about is that we are in for an entertaining main event. With two star-studded lineups going head to head, this is an incredibly tough fixture to predict but as usual, I have you covered with my 3 best betting angles for this game in the preview below:
Team News:
Harvey Elliot, Thiago and Trent Alexander-Arnold are out for Liverpool.
Ilkay Gundogan and Benjamin Mendy are out for Manchester City while Zinchenko is doubtful.
Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Mane
Manchester City possible starting lineup:
Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; Silva, Rodri, Foden; Jesus, De Bruyne, Grealish
Liverpool v Man City Odds
- Over 0 cards for Liverpool in the 2nd half
- Over 0 cards for Manchester City in the 2nd half
This bet has landed in the last 3 head to head meetings in a row for both these sides. The referee in charge is Paul Tierney who is averaging 3.2 cards per game this season so far but has been involved in a couple of one sided games and is generally a good referee for bookings. I expect a toughly contested battle here and things should get heated in the second half when the result is on the line and I can certainly see at least one card each by both these sides in the final 45 mins. Take this bet with a 1pt stake as our first bet for this huge clash.
Milner has seen two yellow cards in four games for Liverpool this season. Due to Trent’s absence, he is expected to play right back for the hosts and will be up against Jack Grealish, who has been fouled more times than any other player since the start of last season (126). I can certainly see Milner bringing Grealish down and picking up a card in the process. 3/1 looks value and I am happy to have a small 0.5pt stake on this as my second bet.
Fabinho was booked in this fixture last season and is known for cynical fouls. Salah is Liverpool’s top scorer with five league goals in six appearances. Grealish will be up against a makeshift right back in Milner and I can see him causing Liverpool’s defence problems and creating chances for his City teammates to finish. Combining these three selections gives us a longshot treble @ 25/1 and I am happy to stake a very small 0.25pt on that.
