Lens vs. Arsenal Betting Tips: Back a Jesus hat-trick in Champions League clash
Arsenal travel to Lens in the Champions League on Tuesday and we've got Jimmy the Punt in the tipping hot-seat to provide his best bets which include a 66/1 longshot!
Even though we’re only approaching Autumn, in the Premier League the pendulum of momentum took a pretty huge swing in the favour of the chasing pack at the weekend.
Manchester City lost at Wolves, Tottenham, somewhat controversially, won against Liverpool and Arsenal cruised to victory on the South Coast.
Those three results saw the gap at the top of the table shrink to one point, the North Londoners moving within striking distance of City.
What’s that gotta do with the Gunners trip to Lens? Well, it means they have extended their unbeaten start to the campaign to 10 games - Community Shield victory included - and we saw how pivotal momentum was to Mikel Arteta’s young pretenders success last campaign.
The Spanish supremo rotated slightly for Arsenal’s return to the Champions League where his side thumped PSV 4-0.
Arteta could be forced to shuffle his deck out of necessity at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. Bukayo Saka picked up a knock at the weekend against the Cherries and Gabriel Martinelli has missed the last few games with a knock.
This could see the visitors start with a front three of Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Troasard.
The hosts have started to get their season back on track after a subpar start, Frank Haise side have won their last two games 1-0 and picked up a point in Sevilla on match day one in Europa.
Lens vs Arsenal Tip
Gabriel Jesus found the net against PSV, that goal doubled his tally for the campaign and extended his run in the Champions League to 12 goals in his last 15 appearances.
The Brazilian frontman seems to relish a European night, he has scored 21 goals in this competition and the Europa League giving him a goals per 90 average of 0.78.
Based on that average alone, there is certainly some juice in the 9/4 available. Obviously, there’s more factors at play here, but Jesus sharing the number nine slot with Nketiah out wide at the minute, he will be doubly keen to make an impression on Tuesday evening.
The visitors are heavily odds on to win this, 60% implied probability of a victory and 4/6 to find the net at least twice.
We saw Arsenal run riot against Eredivisie giants PSV in the last game and with the form Arteta’s men are in I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Gunners grab another hatful in Northern France.
Arsenal racked up an xG of 2.30 and with Saka expected to sit this one out, the goalscoring burden is placed upon his fellow attackers.
Considering this, I’m happy to have a punt on a Jesus hat-trick at big, old tasty odds.
The frontman has scored four or more goals on two occasions and taken the UCL matchball home on two occasions, once against Dinamo Zagreb and once against Shaktar. He is not the most clinical striker but always gets chances, we just have to hope he’s got his shooting boots on in France.
Best of luck if you are backing any of these selections and please remember to gamble responsibly.
