League One Relegation Odds 2023/24: Carlisle and Fleetwood favourites for the drop
The Football League returns next week with the Championship kicking things off on Friday 4th August and League One and Two on Saturday 5th August. It’s that time of the year that punters place their ante-post selections for the season ahead and today at BettingOdds.com we’ve taken a look at the League One Relegation odds for the 2023/24 campaign.
Carlisle: 6/4
Manager Paul Simpson achieved his second promotion in what is his third spell with Carlisle United after their play-off triumph in May. The Cumbrians defied the odds after being 9/1 pre-season to gain promotion from League Two, although bookmakers fancy them to drop back down to the fourth tier immediately, pricing them at just 6/4 to be relegated.
Fleetwood Town: 6/4
Fleetwood owner Andy Pilley was jailed for 13 years in July due to an alleged multi-million pound fraud. At 6/4 in the relegation market, bookies certainly believe that they will struggle this season with those odds implying a 40% chance that they will be playing in League Two in 2024/25.
Cheltenham: 7/4
Cheltenham Town finished nine points clear of the relegation zone and managed 16th in the table. The Cotswold club were priced at 7/4 (second favourites) to be relegated last season and this time round they are the same price again with most firms.
Wigan: 7/4
The Latics finished bottom of The Championship table last season and with off field issues still ongoing they are a short price to suffer back to back relegations at just 7/4.
Northampton: 7/4
It is worth remembering that four sides are relegated from League One and the third side who are priced at 7/4 with Paddy Power are Northampton. The Cobblers achieved promotion from League Two last term finishing third and their main objective will be to hold on to their third-tier status in the forthcoming campaign.
Cambridge United: 9/4
Cambridge United finished just one point and one place above the drop zone in 2022/23. Most betting sites are expecting them to struggle again this term, although they are slightly longer at 9/4 in the market, compared to 7/3 12 months prior.
Stevenage: 9/4
Few punters expected Stevenage to achieve a top-3 finish in League Two after being priced at 12/1 to do so. However, Steve Evans guided them to promotion in a memorable campaign for all involved. For the season ahead, Stevenage can be backed at 9/4 for an immediate return to League Two.
Shrewsbury: 3/1
Shrewsbury managed a top-half finish last season, although there was still a gap of 18 points between themselves and the play-off places. It’s tough to see them challenging towards the top in the months ahead and they are chalked up at 3/1 for relegation.
