Japan vs. Spain Betting Tips: Two bets for final Group E clash
Group E leaders Spain look to claim top spot and passage into the last-16 when they face Japan (2nd) on Thursday.
Scott Thornton has had a detailed look at the match and picked out two of his best fancies...
Group E is still wide open heading into the final match. These two sides are currently first and second in the table but there’s still work to do.
All four teams in the group are still able to qualify for the next round. Germany will be pushing to score as many as possible against Costa Rica to try and ensure they make the round of 16.
A big win for Germany will leave Japan needing a win over Spain. Japan came from behind to best Germany in their first match of the tournament but they failed to capitalise by winning their second match. Japan were beaten by Costa Rica and they now have the unenviable task of getting something against Spain.
There was very little hype surrounding Spain coming into the tournament but the first two games have changed all that. They looked formidable against Costa Rica and looked sharp in the 1-1 draw against Germany.
Enrique’s side look capable of dominating possession against any opponent. The midfielders have stepped up and they have a whole host of players who are capable of finding the net. They will be looking to secure top spot in the group by beating Japan on Thursday.
Japan vs Spain Tips
Spain put sides under a lot of pressure. They recycle possession well and sustain attacks over long periods. Those opponents so far this World Cup have had 21 and 29 tackles. Spain’s opponents in 2022 are averaging 17.88 tackles per game. I expect Japan to hit even more on this match given how important it is for them.
Japan have made 17 and 29 tackles so far in this tournament. Unsurprisingly, the 29 tackles came against Germany. It’s not inconceivable that they will get near this mark against Spain. They are averaging 17.33 tackles per game in the matches they have played in 2022.
The tackles line on bet365 is high but given how many Spain have forced so far this tournament and the fact that desperation may kick in, it still looks a good bet.
We are also going to back under 19.5 throws for Japan. Spain dominate the ball and this limits the opportunities that their opponents have to win throws. So far this tournament, Spain’s opponents have had 15 and 13 throws. Their opponents in 2022 overall are averaging just 15.25 throws per game.
Japan are averaging 18.67 throws per game in 2022. So far this tournament, they've had 19 throws against Costa Rica and just 12 vs Germany.
For the longer odds bet, we are going to take the same angles as the main bet.
There is plenty of scope for Japan to hit this higher tackle line and they wouldn’t get many throws. This bet landed in Japan’s clash with Germany.
The required amount of tackles landed in Spain’s match with Germany. The throws angle landed when Spain met Costa Rica.
