New Year's Eve Acca Tips
Fulham to beat Southampton
Southampton's appointment of Nathan Jones as manager following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl raised eyebrows across the footballing world, with the rookie manager taking his first step into Premier League management with a young team who seem to be well and truly in the mire.
Those questioning the appointment of Jones certainly won't have changed their mind on early evidence, with Saints looking distinctly average in a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton last time out. Maybe Jones will turn things around but it doesn't look a quick fix and being able to oppose this struggling Southampton side at just short of even money is a great start for our Acca.
At the start of the season, many weren't keen on Fulham's chances of survival. Marco Silva's men have continued their brilliant Championship standards in the top flight, however, and spearheaded by Mitrovic and his goals the Whites look set to secure safety with plenty of time to spare. They play an exciting brand of football and recruited smartly in the summer, looking everything Southampton should aim to be.
Backing a side as coherent and in sync as this Fulham team for a home win against a team in as much turmoil as Southampton is a no brainer and they're a confident pick to kick things off.
Newcastle/Newcastle - Half Time/Full Time
Bookmakers are slowly starting to accept that Newcastle are bona-fide top 4 candidates and maybe even title contenders with their pricing, but still there is value in backing the Toon Army in a home game against a bottom half side like Leeds.
In their first match back since the restart against Leicester Newcastle flew out of the traps to blitz into a 3-0 lead before the half hour mark, meaning this same bet would've cruised in. We aren't saying things will go quite as perfectly against Marsch's Yorkshire outfit, but Howe knows how to get his men flying from the first whistle and at 5/4 this looks a solid way to get with Newcastle in this match.
Miguel Almiron is in flying form along with a host of other Newcastle players and he looks a solid goalscorer bet, but to our eye the best value in this game is the Newcastle Newcastle double result on a ground they are yet to lose at this season.
Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals
"Watching other people score to win games at the World Cup triggered, motivated and irritated me. I'm more hungry and more ready than ever." These quotes from Erling Haaland will have been keeping Premier League defenders up at night prior to the league resuming post Qatar. The Norwegian has made the best league in the world look like child's play since his arrival at the Etihad last summer, bagging 18 goals in just 13 games prior to the World Cup pause.
After a chance to recharge he will have been itching for competitive action to return and picked up where he left off with a brace at Elland Road last time out in the first Premier League game back. That takes his tally to 20 goals already in just 14 games, and with a further 24 to come in domestic action who knows where the tally will end up. Those who took massive prices on all the Haaland related specials in the pre-season must be licking their lips.
Haaland will be licking his lips at the prospect of taking on Everton at home next up on New Year's Eve. Lampard's men are a seriously poor side at present, with a lacklustre attack and shaky defence. They will undoubtedly try to frustrate City but simply don't have the tactical acumen or the talent. Expect a comfy City win and back their star man to hit the back of Pickford's net at least twice. The 6/1 on a hat-trick doesn't look the worst bet either...
