The weekend's Premier League action concludes as Everton host Crystal Palace. Five points and three places separate the sides but with the Toffees the wrong side of the dotted line it is a must win for the hosts and more of a must not lose for the Eagles.
Both sides are massively out of form. Sean Dyche’s men only won one game since mid-December and that came against their next opponents in the FA Cup. Palace have only won one game this calendar year and two of their last 15 in all competitions.
It is form that has seen them slump towards the foot of the Premier League table and manager Roy Hodgson shorten to the favourite in the Premier League Sack Race.
It has been a turbulent few days at Selhurst Park. The club looked set to sack Hodgson with a replacement already selected before the veteran boss was rushed to hospital on Thursday. A cloud of uncertainty hangs over the club but with Hodgson in a stable condition in hospital, he is reportedly expected to step down as Palace manager. Where that leaves the club ahead of their trip to Goodison I am not sure.
The visitors look set to be without Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise on Monday though which makes the Eagles price of 17/4 very unappealing. Coincidently, Palace’s last two wins were also the last two times the pair started a game together.
The hosts will be without the services of Arnaut Danjuma and Andre Gomes for this Monday night clash, while both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ben Godfrey remain a doubt.
Everton vs Crystal Palace Tips
It is a case of who isn’t playing rather than who is. Palace are without their two mercurial maestros Eze and Olise and Everton could well be without Abdoulaye Doucoure - their star man this term.
Everton’s rotten run is without doubt down to the absence of Doucoure. The midfielder has only started one game since mid-December (0-0 draw with Aston Villa).
With him in the side, Everton average 1.45 points a game and score 1.22 goals, without him those averages drop to 0.5pts a game and 0.67 goals.
Doucoure may be fit to play on Monday but Dyche is not the type of manager to rush a player back. Given the magnitude of the game, and the key injuries to both sides, under 2.5 goals is the bet.
Take out a side's best two attacking players and they are not as threatening. Who would have thought?
Palace have failed to score in nine of their games this season, Olise and Eze were both not present in any of those games. The Eagles have drawn three games 0-0, one of which coming against Everton where only one goal separated the sides over two games in the FA Cup.
Everton has also failed to net in five of their last 11 games with three stalemates over that period.
Best of luck if you are backing any of these selections and please remember to gamble responsibly.
