Chelsea vs Brighton Prediction, Odds and Betting Tips: Bet on Cucurella to be Carded
Chelsea will take on Brighton at Stamford Bridge in a highly anticipated clash, with both teams aiming to keep the pressure on the teams at the top. The match is scheduled for Saturday at 3pm.
Chelsea vs Brighton City Predictions
Since Roman Abramovic left the club, Chelsea have seemed like a club in complete crisis. At times, their approach appeared unorganised, as if they were throwing anything at the wall to see what would stick. Their activity in this summer's transfer window drew significant criticism, with the club seemingly targeting any available attacking player. However, under new manager Enzo Maresca, they've made a promising start to the season, winning three out of their first five league games.
Brighton have also had a solid start under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, who took over after Roberto de Zerbi's departure. Hurzeler has guided the team to an unbeaten run so far, but they have drawn their last three league matches, including games against Nottingham Forest and newly promoted Ipswich Town—both matches they were expected to win.
These consecutive draws may have dampened Brighton's momentum, and with Chelsea in strong form, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brighton’s unbeaten streak end this weekend.
For my first pick, I’m backing Chelsea to win with both teams to score. Both Brighton and Chelsea tend to produce entertaining, end-to-end matches, so goals can be expected on Saturday. This can be backed at odds of 8/5 on BetMGM.

For my second pick, I’m backing Marc Cucurella to receive a yellow card in the match. The Spanish left-back has shown a tendency to struggle defensively throughout his time at Chelsea. He often finds himself in risky challenges, especially when faced with pacey or skillful opponents with Brighton have in abundance. This season alone, Cucurella has already been booked twice and I would not be surprised if this was to happen again.
Given the attacking threats Brighton pose on the wings, Cucurella will likely be under significant pressure throughout the game. The Seagulls, his former club, have several skillful and pacey right wingers who can exploit any defensive weaknesses such as Minteh and Adingra. The Spaniard will need to be at his best to contain these threats, but his aggressive style and tendency to dive into tackles may lead to fouls in dangerous areas. This could put him at risk of receiving yet another booking.
Cucurella is priced at 23/10 on BetMGM to be booked this Saturday, and considering he has already found himself in the referee's notepad twice this season, this seems like a solid value bet. With his tendency to commit fouls under pressure, this price presents a good opportunity for those looking to capitalise on his defensive frailties.
