Chelsea vs. Liverpool Betting Tips: Best Bets from the Bridge on Sunday
Live on Sky Sports, Chelsea go up against Liverpool this Sunday at Stamford Bridge for the main event of the Premier League opening weekend. Tipster Wizard is on hand to preview the action and provide his best bets.
The Blues will kick off a new era under new manager Mauricio Pochettino with a tough assignment against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side. Coming into this game, both these teams have been locked in a battle for highly rated midfielder Moises Caicedo and at the time of writing it is still unsure which way he is headed.
As for matters on the pitch, Chelsea head into the new season with the youngest squad in the league with an average age of just 23.8. With an exciting and talented young group of players, there is optimism among the Blues’ fanbase and expectations are high.
As for Liverpool, they will look to bounce back after missing out on the Champions League spots last season. Having lost key midfielders including Fabinho, Keita, Henderson, Milner & Carvalho as well as forward Roberto Firmino, they have brought in Dominik Szoboszlai from Leipzig and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton to reinforce their squad.
There is a feeling they still need to strengthen their defence if they are to challenge at the top of the table, so the upcoming weeks could certainly get interesting.
As for the head to head record between these two sides, their last six meetings in all competitions have ended in draws with the last four meetings ending 0-0. This has traditionally been a low-scoring affair with just two of their last 10 meetings featuring over two goals. Both these sides are looking to improve upon last season’s disappointment and we could be in for a cracking sunday main event.
Team News:
Nkunku, Badiashile, Fofana, Broja & Bettinelli are out for Chelsea while Madueke is doubtful. Thiago & Bajcetic are out for Liverpool.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Tips
- Ben Chilwell Over 0.5 shots
- Over 1 cards in the second half
Ben Chilwell has been playing further forward in pre-season for Chelsea under Pochettino making overlapping runs consistently. He was averaging close to 1 shot per game last season, but I expect that to increase on the evidence of Chelsea’s pre-season games.
With Trent bombing forward, there will be spaces for Chelsea to attack Liverpool’s right side and I can comfortably see Chilwell registering a couple of shots here so adding this selection makes perfect sense.
As for the second pick, card happy referee Anthony Taylor takes charge of proceedings. There are new regulations related to time-wasting, dissent and kicking the balls away in place which are expected to increase the average number of cards shown in the league this season. There is also expected to be an increase in the added minutes at the end of the games which should help our cards selection.
Both these teams will be eager to start off positively and as a result, we could see tackles flying in especially in the final 45 minutes. Combining these two selections gives us a solid bet builder @ 9/10 and I am happy to stake 1pt on that as our main pick for this game.
- Ben Chilwell Over 1.5 shots
- Over 2 cards in the second half
Following on from our main pick, I am going for higher lines on both selections for our second bet builder @ 5/1 with a small 0.25pt stake. With the new regulations, we are all set to witness the ball being in play for longer times than last season and that should definitely help the lines we are taking.
Best of luck if you follow these selections. Please always gamble responsibly.
