Championship Top Scorer Odds 2023/24: Foxes trio head the betting
The Championship season is now just a week away, with the first game being played on Friday 4th August 2023. Today we’ve taken a look at the betting for the top-scorer in the division, with the prices quoted below from BetVictor.
Patson Daka: 10/1
We have no clear short-priced favourite in this market for the 2023/24 campaign with three Leicester City forwards at the top of the betting. The first of those is Patson Daka who managed just four league goals last season and can be backed at 10/1.
Jamie Vardy: 10/1
The last time Jamie Vardy was in the Championship was 10 years ago when he managed 16 goals in 37 appearances. Now at the age of 36 Vardy is very much in the autumn of his career but is still just 10/1 to be top-scorer this term.
Kelechi Iheanacho: 12/1
The final player in the Foxes trio is Kelechi Iheanacho who scored in four of his 11 starts last season. The former Manchester City man also added five assists for Leicester in their relegation campaign, and is available at 12/1 with BetVictor in the top-scorer market, with others such as Coral going much shorter at 7/1.
Chuba Akpom: 12/1
Before a ball was kicked last season Chuba Akpom was priced as big as 150/1 to be the second-tier top goalscorer. The 27-year-old blossomed under Michael Carrick and netted 28 goals, finishing top of the pile. This time round Akpom is much shorter at just 12/1.
Joel Piroe: 12/1
Over the course of the last two campaigns, Swansea’s Joel Piroe has scored an impressive 41 goals. No player averaged more shots per game last season (3.3) than Piroe and he is another 12/1 shot in this market.
Che Adams: 14/1
In the 2018/2019 season, Che Adams bagged 22 Championship goals in the colours of Birmingham City. The Scot returns to the second-tier with Southampton after their relegation and is a general 14/1 with most firms.
Patrick Bamford: 14/1
It’s been a turbulent couple of years for Patrick Bamford and the striker will be hoping he can rediscover some of the form he showed when scoring 17 Premier League goals in 2021/22. For those who fancy him to thrive in The Championship, 14/1 is available.
Adam Armstrong: 16/1
Adam Armstrong has scored just four goals in his last 53 league appearances for Southampton, albeit 22 of those were as a substitute. The last time he played at this level he banged home 28 goals in 40 appearances for Blackburn and could be worth some consideration at 16/1.
Nathan Tella: 16/1
The future of Nathan Tella remains uncertain with Southampton rejecting an offer from Burnley for the striker. Tella scored 17 league goals for The Clarets in the league winning campaign, and is 16/1 to be the leading goalscorer in 2023/24.
Ellis Simms: 16/1
Since this market opened Ellis Simms has attracted some attention and has consequently been cut from 25/1 into 16/1. Simms signed for Coventry City in July and will look to fill the hole that has been left by Viktor Gyokeres’ departure.
