Championship Relegation Odds 2023/24: Rotherham fancied for the drop

The 2023/24 Championship season starts on Friday 4th August and today at bettingodds.com, we’ve taken a look at the relegation odds available for the forthcoming campaign.
Rotherham United 2/1
Despite being the shortest priced side to be relegated from The Championship at the start of last season (6/4), Rotherham managed a 19th place finish. This time round they are slightly bigger in the market at 2/1, with bookmakers still making them the joint favourites to be lining up in League One in 12 months time.
Plymouth Argyle - 2/1
Also at 2/1 in the Championship relegation market is Plymouth. After their barnstorming title winning season in League One, where they collected a mammoth 101 points, the Pilgrims main objective for the season ahead will be to remain in the division. 2/1 implies a 33% chance that they will suffer relegation back to the third-tier of English football.
Huddersfield - 3/1
For much of last season, it looked like Huddersfield would be one of the three sides to be relegated. However, the return of Neil Warnock inspired just one defeat from their final nine matches (W6 D2 L1), in order to steer The Terriers to safety. Huddersfield have been quiet in the transfer market this summer and can be backed at 3/1 in 2023/24.
QPR - 3/1
Before a ball was kicked last season punters could have got 9/1 about Queens Park Rangers being relegated. This term, they are a much shorter price at just 3/1, with Gareth Ainsworth now having a full pre-season to help improve this current squad.
Cardiff City - 3/1
The Bluebirds can consider themselves rather fortunate that Reading suffered a points deduction last season, or they may well have been playing League One football this time out. Cardiff finished 21st in the table with 49 points and are just 3/1 in the relegation market here.
Sheffield Wednesday - 7/2
Sheffield Wedneday’s play-off triumph journey will long live in the memory after a remarkable four-goal comeback against Peterborough in the semi-final, before a late extra-time winner at Wembley from Josh Windass against Barnsley. The South Yorkshire club will look to cement their place in the second-tier, while for those who fancy an immediate relegation 7/2 is on offer.
Birmingham City - 4/1
After a miserable last decade, positivity looks to be coming back to St. Andrews with the takeover from New York investment advisor Tom Wagner. Fans hope to see more names arrive before the end of the transfer window, although they remain a relatively short 4/1 to be relegated this season.
Preston North End - 9/2
Preston only finished six points outside the play-offs in 2022/23, despite failing to win any of their last five league matches. Bookmakers have chalked the Lancastrians at 9/2 to finish inside the bottom-three.
Bristol City - 5/1
Bristol City were as short as 3/1 with one bookmaker to be relegated before the start of last season, but progress has been made in the last two years under Nigel Pearson. This time round they are out at 5/1 with most firms.
Hull City - 11/2
Hopes are high in East Yorkshire as owner Acun Ilicali continues to invest in the club. Manager Liam Rosenior only suffered defeat in six of his 28 matches he took charge of last season, with The Tigers priced at 11/2 to be relegated.
Swansea City - 7/1
After being 16/1 12 months ago Swansea are now 7/1 just to drop down to League One for the first time since 2008.
Blackburn Rovers - 8/1
Rounding off the top half of the betting are Blackburn Rovers, whose price in this market has been clipped in during the last week amid speculation over financial troubles. Rovers missed out on the play-offs by the barest of margins on goal difference last season and will need to make up for the departure of Ben Brereton in the final third.
Others
The other 12 teams in the bottom half of the market can all be backed at double-figure prices. You can find a full list of odds from a range of trusted betting sites below.
