Cardiff vs Birmingham Tips
After opening the new campaign with an impressive 1-0 win over title favourites Norwich, Cardiff followed up that result with a poor 2-1 away loss to Reading, putting them on 3 points after 2 matches played. The fans will want more from the Bluebirds as Steve Morison’s side currently pose the worst expected goals the league has to offer, however many new signings could be a reason for a mixed start to the season. Cardiff should see this as a winnable fixture and so do the bookies: the home side head into this fixture as 5/4 favourites with Blues around 23/10.
Birmingham secured their first win of the campaign vs Huddersfield last weekend which continues an unbeaten start to the season. John Eustace’s side currently occupy 3rd place in the division, collecting 4 points from the opening 2 matches. Although it is early days, Birmingham’s problems off the pitch do not seem to be affecting on pitch results as of yet, so they should feel the more confident of the two sides heading into this game week 3 fixture.
We had success in our last preview backing unders in a Championship game, with Norwich drawing 1-1 at home to Wigan in a game that went exactly how I imagined. I hate to be the so called party pooper, but I just can’t see Cardiff vs Birmingham producing a classic, and for that reason I am backing Under 2.5 goals with an increased stake of 2Pts.
It’s no secret that both of these sides like to keep it tight and I can see a lack of goals once again. I already touched on the lack of XG Cardiff are struggling to create, and the stats following on from last season correlate to this nicely. Under 2.5 goals has landed in 8 out of the Bluebirds last 10 home league games and in that run includes a 1-1 draw with current opponents Birmingham, so it’s fair to say we shouldn’t expect a cracker. Blues opened their campaign with a 0-0 stalemate away to Luton Town, showing they can be stubborn opposition on the road.
8/11 not the most attractive price but one I feel should hopefully get us another winner in the Championship.
I am struggling to split these two heading into this fixture and was tempted by the 0-0 correct score priced at 8/1. However, I’ve opted to go for a draw and the hosts to collect 2 or more cards, something they have managed in both of their opening 2 games this season.
Adding Cardiff over 1 Card increases the 23/10 for a draw to a much more appealing 9/2. The Bluebirds have received the most cards in the division so far, a league high of 9 yellow cards after just two matches. I could see a repeat of the last head-to-head where this bet landed comfortably in a 1-1 draw at the Cardiff City Stadium, worthy of half a unit .5 stake.
