Burnley vs. Blackburn Betting Tips: Back Brereton Diaz to score & be carded in El Lanclassico

Burnley take on Blackburn in the Championship on Sunday with the bitter East Lancashire rivals currently first and second in the league table. We’ve previewed the game and provided you with two bets that we like the look of.

The Cotton Mill derby is the hottest ticket in town on Sunday with Burnley and Blackburn meeting for the first time in five years. The Clarets currently sit top of the pile in the Championship under Vincent Kompany and are unbeaten at Turf Moor this season, winning their last four in front of their own fans.

Blackburn have exceeded many pundits expectations this season and remarkably are yet to draw any of the 20 league matches so far. Rovers have won two more matches (12) than any other side in the league this term, although they come into this game as the outsiders with the bookmakers, priced at a rather large looking 4/1 for the win.

Burnley on the other hand are the odds-on favorites at 7/10 coming into El Lanclassico. Vincent Kompany will be without Scott Twine and Ashley Westwood for this game while Ash Phillips is the only confirmed absentee for the visitors.

This derby has a real bit of bite about it and the atmosphere inside Turf Moor should be a volatile one on Sunday. With this in mind both our bets include players being carded with the first of those for Burnley’s right-back Vitinho.

Vitinho may have only been shown one yellow card so far this season in the Championship but a large reason behind our thinking with this one is that he will be tasked with taking care of Ben Brereton Diaz. The Blackburn man is the most dangerous attacking threat for the visitors and loves to run with the ball before getting shots off. Brereton Diaz is averaging over a foul drawn per game this season and we think Vitinho will be tasked with hitting him hard in this battle of East Lancashire.

A player who was shown eight yellows in the league last season, Brereton Diaz is once again proving himself as one of the best players in the Championship with nine goals this Championship campaign, making him the joint-top scorer in the division. 

This term Diaz has three yellow cards to his name and with this double landing already this season away at Blackpool, we feel the 16/1 should be a slightly shorter price considering his goalscoring and disciplinary records.
