Betting Stories: Sky Bet's SoT hot-streak brought to an end by late Kane header at the Hawthorns

It's about time...
Sky Bet’s luck finally came to an end this weekend, after Harry Kane’s 88th minute header - the 150th goal of his Premier League career - against West Brom secured punter’s with a late winner in the Leeds-based bookmaker’s latest even-money shots on target promotion, which before yesterday’s win seemed to be the most cursed thing since the year 2020.
This particular promotion has recently gained plenty of attention from punters looking to double their money in the quickest way possible, and is one that on the face of it looks impossible to lose. Throughout the last few weeks, Sky Bet have boosted the price of several of the Premier League’s most lethal attackers to have just one shot on target during a game.
Players like Jamie Vardy, Raheem Sterling, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sergio Aguero have all been selected in an attempt to lure customers in, with hundreds of thousands of punters placing stakes worth up to £15 on the promotion. However, up until yesterday the bet had failed to come in, leaving millions scratching their head in sheer disbelief that this seemingly unlosable wager had in fact, continued to lose - myself included.
Our loss was Sky Bet’s gain, however, with millions of pounds obtained through these promotions being settled as losers, which meant that they could test the waters with another appealing boost, pricing up one of the most in-form players in the division to have one shot on target at Evens against a team with the worst defensive record in the league prior to this weekend’s results.
Surely, surely! This one lands.
Well, it did. But it wasn’t easy and the curse nearly continued with Kane and Tottenham frustrated by a resilient West Brom outfit who managed to keep them out until the final stages, when Matt Doherty’s delightful cross found the head of ‘Arry and he nodded home to clinch the spoils with just two minutes left on the clock.
More importantly, though, it brought an end to Sky Bet’s hot-streak and ensured that us punters finally had something to smile about. Who’s up next?
