The Villans kicked off their 2024/2025 campaign with an impressive 2-1 win over a West Ham side that are expected to go well this season after major investment in the squad. New arrival Amadou Onana produced a man of the match performance, scoring a thumping header from a corner to open the scoring. Paqeuta equalised for the hosts from the penalty spot but Jhon Duran’s 79th minute strike made sure the visitors claimed all three points.
As for the Gunners, they started off their title charge with a routine 2-0 win over Wolves with Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka getting on the scoresheet. However, a trip to Villa Park is one of the toughest fixtures of the season and Arsenal were beaten 1-0 at this venue last season courtesy of a 7th minute John McGinn goal. A 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa towards the end of last season ultimately cost Arsenal the title so they will be out for revenge when they travel to Villa Park this Saturday.
Team News:
Tyrone Mings & Boubacar Kamara are out for Aston Villa while Robin Olsen is doubtful.
Tomiyasu & Kieran Tierney are out for Arsenal while Fabio Viera is doubtful.
- Morgan Rogers - Over 0.5 shots
- Bukayo Saka - Over 0.5 shots
- Thomas Partey - Over 0.5 fouls committed
Morgan Rogers will be lining up behind the striker in the attacking midfielder role for Villa where he consistently gets himself into good shooting positions. He loves a shot from distance and gets into threatening positions in the opposition’s penalty box on a consistent basis. He had two shots against West Ham in the first game of the season where he played 90 minutes and will be expected to play a high number of minutes again, increasing his chances of registering an attempt on goal. He also had a shot the last time he played against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and back at Villa Park he should get even more chances to get this selection over the line.
Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s main man on the attacking front, scoring 16 goals last season and it was no surprise to see him getting on the scoresheet last week against Wolves. He had five shots in the first game and also hit at least one shot in both head to head meetings against Aston Villa in the Premier League last season. He is also Arsenal’s designated penalty taker which further boosts the chances of landing this selection.
Thomas Partey is expected to start in the defensive midfield position alongside Declan Rice. He only started nine games last season, committing ten fouls and was busy against Wolves committing three fouls. He loves a strong tackle in the middle of the pitch and I expect him to be forced into committing a foul against a potent Aston Villa attack.
- Morgan Rogers - Over 1.5 shots
- Bukayo Saka - Over 1.5 shots
- Thomas Partey - Over 1.5 fouls committed
For the second selection, I am taking higher lines on all three selections. Morgan Rogers attempted two shots in the first league game of the season away at West Ham and despite Arsenal being a tougher test, he has looked impressive going forward and his tendency to shoot from outside the box makes this a solid selection.
Bukayo Saka attempted 4 & 3 shots respectively in his two Premier League outings against Aston Villa last season and attempted five shots last week. Just like Rogers, he also loves a pop from distance and should be one of Arsenal’s biggest threats going forward in this game.
Finally, Arsenal’s defensive midfielder committed three fouls last season at Villa Park and with Partey expected to play that role here, I expect him to be very busy. As I already mentioned, he was forced into committing three fouls last week and I expect him to mistime a couple of tackles to get this selection over the line.
Combining these three selections gives us a cracking longshot @ 11/2 and we will take that as our second selection with a small 0.25pt stake.
Best of luck if you follow these selections. Please always gamble responsibly.
