Arsenal vs. Brentford Predictions: Goal-threat Gabriel tipped for 1+ shot on target
Arsenal will be out for revenge on fellow Londoners Brentford following their opening day defeat at the hands of Thomas Frank’s men, who themselves are in desperate need of a pick-me-up following a poor run of form...
After an underwhelming and winless start to 2022 which included exits in both domestic cups, Arsenal got back to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph at Wolves last week. They are currently 6th in the table and four points off the top-four, but crucially have three games in hand on both Man Utd and West Ham.
Arsenal will now look to rediscover the home form that saw them win 10 and draw one of 11 matches between September and December. They’ve since been beaten by Man City and Liverpool, followed by a frustrating stalemate against Burnley.
The Gunners have been installed as the red-hot 12/25 favourites to make it back-to-back wins against a Brentford side with just one point from a possible 18 since they beat Aston Villa at the start of the year. The Bees, out at 39/5, haven’t won on the road since October, registering just two points from their last eight away games.
Meanwhile, a draw can be backed at 7/2.
Arsenal vs Brentford Tips
Arsenal Centre-back Gabriel is certainly not shy when it comes to taking shots.
The Brazilian has averaged nearly a shot a game in the league this season (18 shots in 19 games), bagging three goals in the process; the same tally as striker Alexandre Lacazette.
In each game he's scored, Arsenal have won. From October's 2-0 win at Leicester, to the 3-0 victory over Southampton two months later, then most recently the 1-0 triumph at Wolves last week.
Gabriel, 24, has proven to be a huge aerial threat from both corners and free-kicks. He’s amassed six shots on target in his last nine games, and we fancy him to add another SOT (85/40, 888Sport) at home to a Brentford side who have conceded two or more goals in their last eight away games.
Additionally, the defender is priced at 11/1 to have 2+ SOT and 6/1 to score for the second game in a row (both Paddy Power).
Nothing in particular stands out in the Arsenal win or goalscorer markets, however we’ve created a nice little Bet Builder via Paddy Power to form a 16.52/1 treble for the game.
First off, we’ve opted for the match to contain Under 2.5 Goals, an outcome which has occurred in Arsenal’s last five straight games and six of their last nine home games in all competitions. Brentford’s last two games have been Under 2.5 Goals: a goalless draw against Crystal Palace and a 2-0 defeat at Man City.
Next up, we are tipping Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard to have at least one Shot On Target, something the midfielder has managed in seven of his last 10 appearances, including two in his last home appearance against Burnley. In four of those games he’s attempted three shots, and he should have plenty of chances against once again on Saturday.
Finally, we’ve selected Sergi Canos to be carded. He’s been booked more times than any Brentford player so far this campaign, six times in 22 league games - only six players in the league have accumulated more yellows - including in his last outing against Crystal Palace.
