AC Milan vs Liverpool Prediction, Odds, Team News and Betting Tips: Back Mo Salah at the San Siro
AC Milan host Liverpool at the San Siro tonight in the opening round of Champions League games, which can be viewed live on Amazon Prime at 8pm.
Tom Winch has analysed the markets to bring you his best two bets for the match.
AC Milan vs Liverpool Prediction
There’s a fresh feeling about Liverpool. Arne Slot has joined the club and has implemented a new style. The Dutchman made a superb start, winning his first three matches. A shock defeat at home against Nottingham Forest raised eyebrows in an encounter his side failed to show much quality.
Paulo Fonseca earned his first Serie A win as Milan boss over the weekend. The Italian giants have been entertaining in the early part of the campaign, with 15 goals in just four outings.
Both clubs will be desperate to begin their Champions League campaign with a successful result. The English club are favourites, but there may be doubts over the most recent performance.
AC Milan Starting XI
Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Pavlovic, Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Fofana, Reijnders; Pulisic, Morata, Leao.
Liverpool Starting XI
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Gakpo, Jota.
With Milan heavily involved in high-scoring affairs, backing both sides to oblige looks like an angle to consider. Only four sides have shipped more goals in the Italian top-flight in the early stages. Torino, Parma and Lazio each scored twice when clashing with Fonseca’s men.
You can never write Liverpool off, no matter who’s in charge. They’ll be disappointed with that home defeat over the weekend and eager to get back on the pitch to put things right. The offensive firepower is excellent. It’s up there with one of the strongest in Europe. I doubt that they’ll have much difficulty creating chances at San Siro.
The home side finds the net consistently at this venue. Milan have bagged in 22 of their previous 23 matches here. Daniele De Rossi’s Roma are the only side that prevented them from doing so. Milan racked up 25 shots that night and can count themselves unlucky in failing to score.
Mo Salah has been sublime for Liverpool since the day he arrived. His two seasons at Roma before his move were just as impressive. The Egyptian has been an emphatic goal scorer for nearly a decade. The winger has started the season strongly with three goals and as many assists in four Premier League matches.
Our man has accumulated 13 shots in the 24/25 season, with three or more arriving in each encounter. Salah will be up against Theo Hernandez, an offensive-minded left back. The pair faced one another in the 21/22 season as Liverpool and Milan met in Group B of the Champions League. Salah recorded nine shots across the two meetings, scoring nine in each. I’m confident the Liverpool forward can unleash two shots on Tuesday night.

I’m backing two attacking players to produce a moment of excellence: Christian Pulisic and Mo Salah.
Pulisic has started the campaign in style. He’s scored twice and registered as many assists. The American has scored or assisted in each of his last three appearances. I expect the forward to be bang up for this clash. The 25-year-old had the best season of his career last term. He’s in form and certainly one that can cause problems.
I’ve already briefly discussed Salah in the first tip. There’s little else to say about the Liverpool man. His numbers have been remarkably consistent. He’s a constant threat and perhaps doesn’t get as much respect as he deserves. He’s scored at least 18 goals in every Premier League season for the Reds. He takes the penalties, a bonus to our selection.
Salah has found the back of the net 26 times in his last 39 Champions League appearances across the previous four campaigns. His numbers speak for themselves. The forward was disappointing against Forest on Saturday afternoon, and he will be the first to hold his hands up. Expect a ruthless display from Salah on Tuesday night in Italy.
