LeoVegas Sport Review
This review takes a close look at LeoVegas Sport. Here, I’ll tell you about my experience of using the online bookmaker, including what I think about its sports markets, promotions and more.
As someone who reviews both online casinos and sportsbooks, I knew LeoVegas primarily as an online casino. As such, I was keen to see what the site offered on the sports betting side of things. LeoVegas was an online casino for the first four years from 2012 to 2016, before it launched its sportsbook section.
Despite my initial doubts due to this site being an online casino first, these were proven unfounded. I soon learned that this bookmaker has won awards such as Online Casino of the Year at the 2023 Global Gaming Awards. There have also been several official football partnerships such as with Manchester City and Inter Milan, which says something about its reputation. Bonuses and Promotions
You can tell that LeoVegas Sport has an online casino background first and foremost by the type of welcome offer available. New customers can get up to £100 extra with a 100% profit boost. To be eligible, you’ll first have to opt-in to the offer, then place a minimum deposit of £10 and stake at least £10.
Your bet won’t qualify if it’s a system bet, each each-way bet, or you’ve cashed out. The profit boost winnings will be calculated by the odds in your bet slip. For example, if your original bet odds were 3.0 (2/1), the 100% boost will mean you receive odds of 5.0 (4/1). Punters must also use their free bets within seven days.
Besides the welcome bonus, LeoVegas Sport makes a promotion out of its partnership with Blackpool FC. On every Blackpool game in the 2023-2024 season, punters get a 10% profit boost when they stake on any pre-match market. This offer permits bets up to £20 for extra winnings as high as £200.
As someone who uses social media, I also appreciated the chance to win £5 by following and commenting on the This or That posts. LeoVegas has accounts on Facebook, X, and Instagram where these promotions run and the winner is chosen at random each week. The best part is that the £5 prize has no limits to it – I’m yet to win though!
Sports and Markets
My initial reservations about LeoVegas as a decent sportsbook were quickly put to bed when I explored just how many sports and markets there were. Like most sportsbooks, this bookie focuses on the top leagues and competitions. It offers about 10,000 events every month. In total, there are more than 35 sports. You’ll find the popular ones like horse racing, greyhounds, and football. In addition, there’s a decent list of minor sports like trotting, WWE, jai alai, bandy, rowing, and winter sports.
There are also special betting options to choose from. This includes the Oscars, live TV and novelty bets, or political options such as the next Labour leader after Keir Starmer and the US Presidential election 2024.
As for eSports, there is a huge variety here. This includes CS:GO, Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Starcraft 2, Valorant, Dota 2, and Rainbow Six. This range is larger than some of the big sports betting bookmakers around.
In terms of markets, I found a good number of options. If we look at football, for example, you’ll find over 140 markets. This includes Asian lines, player shots on goal, and double chance. LeoVegas Sport also shows you Trending Combos and offers boosts on a range of matches.
Other sports don’t have as many markets. For basketball, you’ll find good coverage at the top but the number of pre-match wagers is limited. The tennis offering is similar and the main option is to bet on the result of a match.
We can’t mention LeoVegas without talking about its casino offerings. After all, this is very much an online casino with an in-built sports section. The app is also called LeoVegas Casino – even though it’s also used for sports betting, which is a little confusing. Anyway, there are good casino offers and you’re constantly reminded of them on the sportsbook page too, which depending on your level of interest can either be great or irritating.
Design and Usability
As someone who reviews a lot of sportsbooks, I have to say that the design and interface of LeoVegas Sport does seem clunky and old-fashioned. However, there are valuable features and the site does have great search facilities. I’ve complained about search features on other sportsbooks before so I’m happy that LeoVegas Sport gets this right.
A couple of key features that are missing are the opportunities to place a quick bet or edit your bet – which means you can’t make any changes. You also can’t request a bet on this platform.
Overall, though, the website does work well both on a desktop and a mobile screen. The home page clearly shows you the current live betting options and there are tabs for upcoming, specials, and my favourites. Below this, you’ll find a horizontal row of sports icons for the most popular sports like football, tennis, and basketball.
To see more sports options, you need to choose the heading ‘browse sports.’ This will bring up a pop-up showing tabs for football, tennis, and horse racing. You can scroll through these for countries and tournaments. Clicking ‘more’ will bring up all of the sports in alphabetical order. You can find niche offerings like floorball, bandy, jai alai, and trotting. There’s even a separate section for Leo Boosts so you can always find the most profitable offers.
Payment Methods and Withdrawal Times
Compared to some online casinos, LeoVegas Sport offers a good range of suitable payment methods. Punters can use Visa, bank transfer, PayPal, Mastercard, and Apple Pay. All methods have a minimum deposit amount of £10. Although the site doesn’t impose a minimum withdrawal amount, those who want to withdraw less than £10 need to contact the support team who will process this manually.
All deposits are processed instantly and added to your account, but like any bookmaker, withdrawals take a little longer. The time it takes to receive your cash depends on your chosen method of payment, and it can take anywhere up to 5 working days. The quickest withdrawal method is PayPal. The withdrawal times here are on par with other popular UK bookmakers.
There is no maximum win cap at LeoVegas Sport. This is because any large-stake bets have to be approved by the bookmaker first. There are no fees for withdrawals.
As a part of its safer gambling responsibilities, LeoVegas has a transaction history tool that goes back 3 months. This is available within the banking section of your account. You can request to look further back by contacting the support team.
In-Play Betting Options
LeoVegas Sport offers thousands of live events every month. You’ll be able to bet on the ever-popular English Premier League right through to the reserves in Paraguay. The live betting options include special markets too. For example, you can choose how the player scores, i.e. from outside the box or with a specific foot.
Compared to pre-match betting, the live basketball markets are better. There are special markets for the top matches and NBA games too. In-play tennis betting is available and it’s possible to play on the point in the set and game as it stands.
LeoVegas has live streaming as a facility for many of its in-play betting options. However, this is not available for eSports. Instead, you can see match live highlights on display.
Bet Builder
LeoVegas offers a Bet Builder option. This means you can place multiple market bets on one bet slip. To do this, you have to choose your markets directly within the Bet Builder section of the event itself, though not all events have this option. Some LeoVegas Sport promotions include Bet Builders in their qualifying bets, which is good.
When you’ve chosen your selections from the ones available, you’ll see the bet split displaying your cumulative odds. You can then enter your stake to place your bet. Unlike an accumulator, this is classed as a single bet. This means the odds aren’t multiplied together. Instead, they merge to be one set of odds that the LeoVegas Sport system calculates.
This bookmaker also allows you to cash out, either fully or partially, to settle your bet earlier.
LeoVegas Betting App
LeoVegas has an app for both Android and iOS - these are available from their respective app stores. There is also a link to download them on the desktop website.
The apps are generally good and the same as the mobile version of the website. The design is less clunky and old-fashioned and is easier to use. I guess LeoVegas realises that most people prefer betting in this way these days.
In terms of general reviews, the Android app has a rating of 4.0 out of 5 coming from 4.4k reviews. Though this isn’t the highest rating of sportsbook apps I’ve looked at, I did appreciate the fact that LeoVegas takes time to respond to any bad reviews and help customers.
The iOS app does have a higher rating with a score of 4.8 out of 5. However, the app has only been reviewed around 75 times, which we need to bear in mind.
One thing I don’t like about the app is that it’s called “LeoVegas: Online Casino Slots.” This makes you think that it’s not the sportsbook app. Lots of platforms do have separate sportsbooks and casino apps but this one is actually both combined – though you wouldn’t know it from its name on the listing. I did appreciate the images containing bright BeGambleAware banners though.
Customer Support
There is a decent help centre on the LeoVegas Sport website. This has a list of FAQs with answers. Should you not find what you’re looking for, you can also use the live chat function. Unlike some sites, this isn’t an annoying pop-up but is quietly there in the corner of each page as an orange “help” icon.
To initiate a live chat conversation, you’ll need to enter your name, email, and a brief message. This service is available round the clock and you’re told what position in the queue you’re in. For reference, I tested this at varying times throughout the day and I was never more than 3rd in the queue, which is pleasing.
If you have a less urgent query or just prefer communicating by email, you can send a message to support-gb@leovegas.com.
Responsible Gambling Features
Unlike most online casinos that use the phrase ‘responsible gambling,’ LeoVegas refers to this as LeoSafePlay. Though the content is the same – and it’s good – I do wish the site stuck to using the more familiar term for consistency with how the UK Gambling Commission refers to it.
However, if you can get past the name, what the bookmaker offers in terms of tools is excellent. There is a robust – and anonymous – self-assessment tool and LeoVegas Sport encourages users to contact them to discuss the results if they wish.
Punters also have access to deposit limits, loss limits, and wagering limits. These are available as a daily, weekly, or monthly amount. Additionally, you can also limit your sessions, which means you’ll be notified just before your time is up and then you’ll be logged out automatically. A less extreme tool of this nature is the reality check tool. You can set alerts up to help you keep track of how much time (or money) you’ve spent.
Finally, you can also request time out from your account. This closes your account for a period of your choosing.
Summary
I’ve got over my gripes with the casino-focused app name and old-fashioned desktop site and come to the conclusion that actually, LeoVegas is a pretty great sportsbook. The sports available are second to none. There aren’t many places offering such a range of sports to UK bettors. Some sports could do with more markets added but there are others with a great amount.
In summary, I recommend this bookmaker to those who like to dabble in sports betting and casino games (for obvious reasons) but also to those who are seeking out niche sports betting options. Click the sign-up link to join.
