Diego Simeone
Diego Simeone
Diego Simeone, aka El Cholo, has established himself as one of the top managers in world football since taking charge of Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid in 2011.
Under Simeone Atletico are incredibly organised, balanced, and extremely difficult to beat. The Spanish capital club have perfected the art of frustrating opponents and grinding out results, however they've also excelled in attack, with the club famed for producing a series of stunning strikers in recent years.
Simeone's tactical ideology is titled "Cholismo", which involves teams working as a collective unit, with everyone committed to the same goal, as opposed to focusing on individuality.
The man in black famously shattered the Barcelona-Real Madrid duopoly after leading Atletico to the La Liga title in 2014, while his troops came agonisingly close to hoisting the Champions League in the same season. In 2020/21 they added another La Liga title in dramatic fashion, on the final day of the season.
