Saturday Acca Tips
Aston Villa to beat Burnley
It may have been a disappointing festive period so far for Aston Villa after a stalemate with Sheffield United prevented them topping the table on Christmas Day, before throwing away a two goal lead and losing 3-2 to Manchester United, but we are backing them to beat the Clarets.
However, Villa have still won 15 of their last 16 home league matches (W15 D1), and we trust in Unai Emery to rally the troops and for his side to bounce back against a Burnley side who have been improved in recent weeks, but have lost 11 of their last 15 league matches.
Crystal Palace to beat Brentford
Neither Palace or Brentford have been in good form in recent weeks and both are hovering nervously just above the relegation zone. Roy Hodgson’s side are winless in six, but a point against Manchester City and Brighton in two of their last three matches gives us belief that they can edge out Brentford at Selhurst Park. The Bees have a lengthy list of absentees for this clash including forwards Kevin Schade, Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney and could struggle after being blown away by Wolves on Wednesday.
Wolves to beat Everton
As mentioned previously, Wolves demolished Brentford in front of their own fans three days ago with Hwang Hee-Chan scoring his ninth and tenth league goals of the season. The visit of Everton promises to provide a stiffer test but they can get the better of a Toffees side who have lost three on the bounce across all competitions. Gary O’Neil’s men are unbeaten in their last seven home matches (W4 D3), and in that period have collected three points against Manchester City, Burnley, Spurs and Chelsea.
Raith Rovers to beat Arbroath
Ian Murray’s Raith Rovers are flying high at the top of the Scottish Championship after having collected 40 points from a possible 51 after 17 matches. Rovers are unbeaten at home this season having won five and drawn three of their fixtures this term. Arbroath on the other hand sit next to the bottom of the second-tier table. Raith came out 2-1 winners when the sides last met two and a half weeks ago at Gayfield Park and can do so again in front of their own fans on Saturday.
Juventus to beat Roma
Rounding off our quintet of picks is Juventus to beat Roma, which is the only one of our selections to not kick-off at 3pm, doing so at 7:45pm over in Turin. It’s been a strong second quarter of the campaign for Max Allegri’s side who are currently on a run of 12 games unbeaten. That series of results has seen them rise to second place in the Serie A table, just four points behind leaders Inter Milan. Roma have won just two of their last nine on the road across all formats (W2 D3 L4) and could struggle against an in-form Juve.
