It’s been a tournament to forget for the England team.
Coming in as reigning champions in both the 50-over and T20 World Cups, many had expected them to be one of the best sides in the competition and probably the only team capable of defeating the hosts India.
Instead, they’ve been humbled, winning just one of their six games and they sit in dead last in the group stage with three games left to play.
Australia started poorly but have now won four games on the spin and they look like a real threat.
Winning this game would put them in a strong position to qualify for the semi-finals, but they will be missing the explosive batting and part-time spin option of Glenn Maxwell and the top-order runs of Mitchell Marsh due to injury for this game, so England could look to capitalise there.
England vs Australia Tips
It’s been an interesting few weeks for David Willey.
Since returning to the side in this World Cup, he’s arguably been England’s best bowler - especially with figures of 2-30 and 3-45 in their last two games against Sri Lanka and India respectively.
Despite that, he found out that he wouldn’t be one of the 29 England players to receive a central contract, and the only player in the World Cup squad not to receive a deal.
After that, he subsequently decided to retire from internal cricket upon the conclusion of the tournament.
He has made no secret of the fact he is extremely angry about the decision and he’s the kind of player that will be desperate to prove his doubters wrong. Expect him to star for England with the ball here.
Travis Head and David Warner are two of the best white ball opening batsmen in world cricket and they proved that last time out against New Zealand with their monster opening partnership of 175 runs in very little time.
Head ended with a 67-ball 109, carrying on white-ball form from before he got injured and Warner is having an excellent tournament.
England have really struggled in the powerplay and have consistently lost early wickets, whereas Australia have been excellent up front with the bat.
