NFL Draft Betting: Jayden Daniels Holds Same Odds as Drake Maye to be No. 2 Overall Pick
Drake Maye has long been viewed as the second-best quarterback prospect in this draft behind Caleb Williams.
But as selection time gets closer, the betting markets are singing a different tune.
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is now tied with Maye in the odds to be the second overall pick in the draft. Each is listed with -115 odds, according to Caesars sportsbook on March 6th.
Maye sat at -250 to be the second pick a month ago, with Daniels at +300 odds, but the gap steadily narrowed, and now they have identical odds.
While Caleb Williams has cemented himself as the top overall pick, the intrigue is growing about what will happen at No. 2 with the Washington Commanders.
Odds to be the No. 2 Overall Pick in the Draft
- Drake Maye -115
- Jayden Daniels -115
- Caleb Williams +1200
- J.J. McCarthy +1400
- Marvin Harrison, Jr. +1400
Washington recently hired Kliff Kingsbury as its new offensive coordinator, and he could have an outsized voice in the decision-making process.
Kingsbury’s most recent NFL tenure came with the Arizona Cardinals, where he had Kyler Murray as his quarterback. Daniels is closer in mobility to the fleet-footed Murray, although Maye can move around enough to fit in Kingsbury’s offense.
There was some speculation that the Commanders would attempt to move up to the No. 1 pick in the draft to nab Williams, who was at USC with Kingsbury last year, but that seems unlikely to happen.
There has also been recent buzz that Washington could consider trading down, but that doesn’t make a bunch of sense considering the glaring hole at quarterback.
The choice seems very likely to be between Maye and Daniels, which Caesars Sportsbook has now identified as a dead heat in betting odds.
On the off chance Williams falls from No. 1, the Commanders would gobble him up, but his odds are +1200 for a reason. J.J. McCarthy is getting some buzz lately, and his odds have improved from 100/1 to 14/1 to be the No. 2 pick, but the Michigan signal-caller is not generally seen as a quarterback that could be in play at that spot.
Wide receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr. is the heavy favorite to be the first non-quarterback taken, but going this high would be a shock.
For those who think conventional wisdom could be bucked on draft day, there are also some huge underdogs that can be wagered on at Caesars to be the No. 2 overall pick in the draft:
- Bo Nix +7500
- Joe Alt +7500
- Brock Bowers +10000
- Dallas Turner +10000
- Malik Nabers +10000
- Olu Fashanu +10000
- Rome Odunze +10000
