MLS 2024 Season Overview & Odds
While the MLS futures bets continue to change given the competitiveness of the league, one soccer team is on everyone's lips still: Inter Miami. Lionel Messi and co. managed to get to the Leagues Cup final last season where the legendary Argentine dominated the goals-scored margins, and this also witnessed the odds for him to score get to as low as -230 in a game.
As of now, Inter Miami is challenging the Supporters' Shield winners, FC Cincinnati, for the Eastern Conference league title, although the latter is once again looking incredible. Cincinnati dominated the soccer regular season last time out, but by losing in the MLS Cup Playoffs, the MLS Cup winner would end up being the Columbus Crew against the soccer odds.
More often than not, however, Inter Miami is the favorite on the moneyline bets and amongst all the MLS odds. On the other hand, a lot of attention needs to be given to LA Galaxy. The five-time MLS Cup champions have secured more MLS Cup wins than any other side, and with the addition of Maya Yoshida last season and the likes of Riqui Puig and Dejan Joveljić looking excellent this season, the Galaxy should at least get into the MLS Playoffs.

Best MLS Players to Look Out for this 2024 Season
Let's take a look at some of the best players to help you win a bet when you wager on a player prop.
- Lionel Messi - A player that needs absolutely no introduction. Messi's ridiculous start to life in America saw him secure 10 goals from seven matches in the Leagues Cup, and he so far has a goal for every game he has played after five matches.
- Luis Suarez - Another legendary ex-Barcelona superstar joined Inter Miami this season, and Luis Suarez has already put down an early marker for the Golden Boot, and he is edging closer to scoring his 500th goal in his illustrious career too.
- Luciano Acosta - After a stunning season with FC Cincinnati, Luciano Acosta secured the MLS MVP award for 2023. This saw him rack up 12 assists and score 17 goals in MLS, meaning he had a goals contribution rate of 29 from 32 matches.
- Thiago Almada - Another wonderful playmaker to consider for a bet is Thiago Almada, as he finished with the most assists in 2023 (16) and scored 11 goals too. What's more, Atlanta United are always one of the highest scores in Major League Soccer each year.
- Denis Bouanga - With Carlos Vela leaving Los Angeles FC, Denis Bouanga's contributions to the Black and Gold are even more important than they were in 2023. Last season, he finished with the MLS Golden Boot by scoring 20 across the regular season and he also managed to get five in five in the Leagues Cup and seven from eight games in the CONCACAF Champions League and six from four in the Major League Soccer Playoffs.
- Dániel Gazdag - Philadelphia Union is aiming for a seventh consecutive finish in the the Playoffs, and to do so, they will need Dániel Gazdag to be at his best once more. The Hungarian secured 14 goals and bagged six assists in 2023 after scoring 22 times and getting six more assists in 2022.
- Hany Mukhtar - After struggles in Europe, Hany Mukhtar finally found his feet when he joined Nashville SC in 2020. The German won the MVP award alongside the Golden Boot in 2022 with 23 goals, and Mukhtar got himself 15 in 2023 to get him into the MLS All-Star team once more.
- Cucho Hernandez - Cucho Hernandez surprised a lot of soccer fans when he swapped the Premier League for Major League Soccer at 22 years old. However, after helping to guide Columbus Crew to the MLS Cup last season with 24 goals across 35 games in the regular season and the Playoffs, Hernandez got into the MLS Best XI and won the MLS Cup MVP.
- Hugo Lloris - Although Stefan Frei of the Seattle Sounders FC was the standout goalkeeper last season, Hugo Lloris deserves a shoutout. The 2018 World Cup winner is one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and he will be crucial for LAFC keeping up its stunning record of getting into the Playoffs in every one of its six seasons so far besides its 2021 campaign.
- Julián Carranza - Another Philadelphia Union player needs a shoutout: Julián Carranza. The 23-year-old Argentine has caught the attention of top teams in Europe for his 14 goals and nine assists in 2023 and 15 goals and seven assists in 2022.
MVP Candidates and MLS MVP Odds
Despite being one of the most well-known MLS teams, no player from the New York Red Bulls has won the MVP award. Other teams like Orlando City and Louis City SC wait for a first-ever MLS MVP winner, but here are the MVP candidates for 2024.
Lionel Messi - Unsurprisingly, Messi leads the way in the MLS MVP odds after his sensational first season in 2023. You can also make a wager on odds of +430 at BetMGM for the 2022 World Cup winner to win the Golden Boot.
Cucho Hernandez - The MLS Cup MVP from 2023 will this season be targeting another plus sign in his excellent football career in the U.S in 2024. You can slo make a bet of +1600 at DraftKings for Hernandez to win the Golden Boot.
Denis Bouanga - The reigning king of the Landon Donovan MVP award, Denis Bouanga, headed into 2024 with the most goals of any MLS player across four different competitions, securing 28 from 48 games. Oddly enough, he is now +1600 with DraftKings to win another Golden Boot.
Giorgos Giakoumakis - With odds of +340 at FanDuel to win the Golden Boot, Giorgos Giakoumakis will also hope to claim the MVP Award. The Atlanta United star scored 19 times in his debut season with the Five Stripes, and after a perfect hat-trick against New England, he is certainly worth considering for a bet.
Luis Suarez - As far as a bet for winning the Golden Boot goes, Luis Suarez is certainly worth considering. The Uruguayan will no doubt break the 500-goal margin in his career this year, putting him within a rare bracket of players to do so in soccer history.
Must-Watch Teams of the 2024 MLS Season
A lot of attention this season so far has fallen on the improved form and odds to get into the Playoffs for the New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City. However, here are the must-watch MLS sides of 2024.
Los Angeles FC
With five of LAFC's six seasons since coming into the MLS witnessing it get into the Playoffs, many wagers are placed on it at the start of the season. Los Angeles was brutally unlucky in 2023 after a draw with Tigres in the Campeones Cup final saw it lose on penalties, while the Black and Gold also lost the MLS Cup final to Columbus Crew and the CONCACAF Champions Cup final too.
Although this does mean LAFC managed to lose three finals, it shows what it is capable of to get you a winning bet. A spot in the Playoffs should come in once more, while the stars from last season like Denis Bouanga, Timothy Tillman and captain Ilie Sánchez are joined by the legendary figure of Hugo Lloris in 2024. LAFC has also managed to bolster its offence with the addition of the third-highest MLS goalscorer of all time, Kei Kamara.
Philadelphia Union
The Philadelphia Union are always towards the top of the odds list for an MLS futures bet. From the past seven seasons, the Union have finished in the Playoffs and no other Eastern Conference team has achieved this.
Philadelphia has also managed to keep hold of the services of Designated Players, Julián Carranza, Mikael Uhre and Dániel Gazdag, which no doubt bolsters its chances of finishing ahead of the likes of the New York Red Bulls, Orlando City, Columbus Crew and Toronto once more in what is looking like being an all-time classic in terms of the Playoffs race.
Inter Miami
The side everyone was talking about ahead of the 2024 season was Inter Miami. Firstly, David Beckham's franchise was catching the eye because of the Messi's addition anyway, now Miami has gone on to add his former Barcelona colleagues, Jordi Alba, Suarez and Sergio Busquets. The four ex-La Liga superstars won countless trophies together, including a treble win in the 2014/15 season.
Miami did finish second in Leagues Cup as it went for a draw in the dying seconds of the game against Houston Dynamo after falling 2-0 down early on. However, Jose Martinez's late goal was not enough. What's more, Miami only failed to get into the Playoffs last season because Messi joined late in the season and simply didn't have enough time to work.
This season, he does, and he's also joined by more legends of the game. Miami also led the odds list to win the Eastern Conference and the odds list to win the MLS Cup before the season started, and this remains the same.
Seattle Sounders FC
The Seattle Sounders have one of the best playoff records in history. Since coming into Major League Soccer in 2009, the Sounders have managed to get into the Playoffs in 14 of their 15 seasons and only ended a streak of 13 Playoff finishes in a row in 2022.
Ultimately, if you're considering a futures bet, the odds for Seattle to get into the Playoffs are always worth considering. In fact, it has also managed to win the MLS Cup twice.
On the other hand, Seattle will be challenged by the likes of Kansas City, Louis City SC, LAFC, and LA Galaxy in the Western Conference in 2024.
FC Cincinnati
Cincinnati won the Supporters' Shield last season and sits towards the top of the Eastern Conference once more after the first few games. Luciano Acosta is also still at the club, and he is also high up on the odds list to win the MLS MVP award.
