Next Head Coach Odds: Bill Belichick Back In Mix For Commanders Job After Ben Johnson Withdraws Candidacy
After the Atlanta Falcons chose Raheem Morris as their new coach, the oddsmakers thought it was overwhelmingly likely that Bill Belichick wouldn’t be an NFL head coach in 2024.
But there may be a sliver of daylight left, and the latest odds reflect it.
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has decided to stay in his current role after many assumed he would be the next coach of the Washington Commanders.
It is unclear which way Washington will go next in their search, but DraftKings has moved Belichick’s odds to be the next head coach of the Commanders from +900 to +600 on the afternoon of January 30th.
Belichick is still a heavy favorite to not be an NFL head coach in 2024, but those odds have gone from -2000 to -1000.
Here are the odds for where Bill Belichick will be head coaching next season, which can be wagered on at DraftKings:
- Not the head coach of an NFL team -1000
- Washington Commanders +600
- Any Other NFL Team +1300
- New York Giants +6500
- New York Jets +10000
Keep an eye on reports from the top NFL insiders, as they can often give clues before things happen.
Adam Schefter reported that Johnson to the Commanders was not the done deal that many thought it was, and he proved correct.
Belichick is not favored to join the Commanders for his next head coaching gig, but Johnson’s decision has at least made it a possibility again.
The Seattle Seahawks also have a coaching opening but have not shown interest in Belichick.
These odds can change rapidly based on the news, as we have seen with Belichick’s odds fluctuating mightily when it came to landing with the Falcons or coaching any NFL team next season.
