Saquon Barkley Next Team Odds: Houston Texans Surpass New York Giants as Favorite to Sign Star Running Back
Is Saquon Barkley’s time in the Big Apple coming to an end?
The betting markets believe that could be the case.
The Houston Texans have surpassed the New York Giants as the favorites to be the next team for Barkley. Houston currently has +100 odds while the Giants have gone from odds-on favorites to +160, per DraftKings on March 1.
The odds movement comes on the heels of a report from respected NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, who said that Barkley has spoken with Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and is considering Houston as is potential top free agent destination.
Here is a look at the top-5 candidates to add Saquon Barkley in free agency, which can be wagered on in certain locations with DraftKings.
Next Team Odds for Saquon Barkley
- Houston Texans +100
- New York Giants +160
- Los Angeles Chargers +400
- Dallas Cowboys +1000
- Chicago Bears +1200
The Texans made a surprising run to the AFC Divisional Round in 2023 and look poised to jump into the realm of conference contenders for the foreseeable future.
Stroud burst onto the scene as a rookie, while the wide receiver and offensive line groups are solid. The addition of Barkley would add juice to the rushing attack and give Houston another playmaker on offense.
The Texans are in good shape with the salary cap and will be for the foreseeable future, as many of their stars are on rookie contracts.
The Giants know the value Barkley brings, but after news dropped that they wouldn’t be franchise-tagging him, it became more likely that he would leave in free agency.
New York is still right in the mix, according to the betting odds, but it could make sense to let him walk, especially if the team has designs of adding a quarterback in the draft while going into rebuild mode.
The Chargers will need a running back after the expected departure of Austin Ekeler, while the Cowboys could also be in the mix if Tony Pollard leaves in free agency.
The Bears have some good young running backs but have plenty of cap space if they want to add a player of Barkley’s stature to ease the transition of projected No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.
There is also the chance a darkhorse emerges. The Ravens are the betting favorites to sign Derrick Henry in free agency, but if that doesn’t happen, they could be interested in Barkley.
The Philadelphia Eagles are another team that could be an interested party to really juice up their running game, though it’s not like Philly to spend big money on a running back.
