Next Head Coach Odds: Atlanta Falcons Favored to Land Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick and the Falcons plan to meet for a second time to discuss Atlanta’s head coaching vacancy, which has ramped up the expectation he ends up with the team.
The ex-New England Patriots mastermind had only +275 odds to be the next head coach of the Falcons on Monday, but those odds now sit at -110, per DraftKings on January 18th.
The odds could continue even more in that direction if news continues to leak out that Belichick and Atlanta owner Arthur Blank see eye-to-eye on coaching and team-building directives.
The Dallas Cowboys seemed to be a legitimate potential destination if Mike McCarthy got fired, but he is going to remain as the coach there in 2024.
There have been reports that there is a team without a vacancy that may be interested in hiring Belichick as head coach, but that has cooled of late as Atlanta has shot to the top of the expected landing places.
Here are the next head coach odds for Bill Belichick according to Drafktings on January 18th:
- Atlanta Falcons -110
- Any Other NFL Team +140
- Not the Head Coach of an NFL Team +250
- Washington Commanders +1000
- Los Angeles Chargers +1500
- Tennessee Titans +1700
- Carolina Panthers +2500
- New York Giants +15000
- New York Jets +15000
The Falcons need a quarterback but otherwise have a pretty solid core of talent, which could appeal to Belichick, who is 71 years old and may not want to endure an extensive rebuild.
Atlanta has the No. 8 overall pick in the draft and could be aggressive this offseason, either by trading up in the draft or going after a veteran through free agency or the trade market.
Belichick’s next-best odds still sit with an NFL team not listed among the options. It’s unclear at this point which team that may be, although the Eagles are an interesting one since there hasn’t been much concrete when it comes to the future of Nick Sirianni.
Belichick does not seem likely to land at any of the other current openings, as the betting sites think he would have a better chance of not coaching an NFL team in 2024 than landing with the Commanders, Chargers, Titans or Panthers.
Belchick famously left the Jets at the altar before taking the Patriots job, and possibly as a nod to that, they are an option to be wagered on in Belichick’s Next Coach Odds even though Robert Saleh is still the coach in New York.
There is still plenty to play out, but as it stands, the oddsmakers believe it’s a 50-50 proposition that Belichick ends up with the Falcons for the 2024 season.
