Week 2 TNF Predictions: Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins and Jordan Addison Prop Bet Picks for Vikings-Eagles 9/14/23
The defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles will host the Minnesota Vikings in a major clash on Thursday Night Football in Week 2.
Philadelphia is the 7-point favorite and -275 on the moneyline while the Vikings are +225 to pull the upset. The scoring total is listed at 49 points.
In addition to the standard wagers, here are three prop bets that have caught my eye for Vikings vs. Eagles, via BetMGM on September 13.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Under 244.5 Passing Yards (-120)
Jalen Hurts had a tremendous yards per pass attempt figure of 8.0 in 2022, which spearheaded a great offensive season for Philadelphia.
I’m just not sure he can duplicate that in 2023, and he didn’t get off to a great start, throwing for only 170 yards at 5.2 yards per attempt in the opener against the Patriots.
Hurts is going to be a problem running the ball and he should find some room to operate through the air, but this total looks high to me. As good as Hurts was a season ago, he only averaged 246.7 passing yards per contest.
The efficiency might come down this season, and if that’s the case in this matchup with the Vikings, the under is the more sensible play.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins Under 24.5 Pass Completions (-130)
There is a scenario in which the Vikings fall behind by double digits quickly and Cousins is forced to sling the ball around the yard. If that happens, this prop bet is sunk.
But I think Minnesota will aim to be balanced in this game to avoid exposing Cousins to a bunch of pressure from the Philadelphia defensive front.
Cousins is a talented thrower but is also prone to fumbles and interceptions, so the Vikings will aim to put him in advantageous situations.
There is also something to be said for the Philadelphia secondary, which is talented and won’t make it easy for the Vikings to come up with a bunch of completions.
My feeling is that Minnesota keeps this game close throughout and can stick to a balanced game script, which means Cousins will finish with fewer than 25 completions.
Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison Over 39.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards (-120)
The number for Addison’s receiving total and his rushing/receiving total is identical, with only a small amount of juice the cost to add in a potential carry for this total.
I like the standalone number for his receiving prop after Addison had four catches for 61 yards on six targets in the season opener.
Justin Jefferson is the superstar in Minnesota but Addison is already the clear-cut No. 2 receiver with Adam Thielen now in Carolina. He should get a solid number of targets again and has the ability to get 40 receiving yards.
Addison had 20 rushing attempts in college and averaged 7.4 yards per carry on them. If he just gets one designed run — or if one of the passes becomes a lateral — then paying a little extra to add his rushing total to the mix could be key.
