TNF Prop Bets: DeAndre Hopkins, Patrick Peterson and Derrick Henry Picks For Steelers vs. Titans
The Week 9 NFL slate kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between AFC foes the Steelers and Titans.
Pittsburgh is a slight favorite, and is the pick to both win this game and cover the spread.
There are plenty of prop bets to choose from, and here are three to consider heading into Titans vs. Steelers on TNF.
Prop Bet Pick: Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins Over/Under 53.5 Receiving Yards
Will Levis seems to understand one thing about playing quarterback in the NFL — when in doubt, chuck it to your best player.
DeAndre Hopkins had a monster game last time out, catching four passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns against the Falcons. The Titans pulled that off against an Atlanta secondary that features A.J. Terrell, Jessie Bates and Jeff Okudah.
The Steelers won't have star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick because of a hamstring injury, and are allowing 6.5 net yards per pass attempt on the season, which is 23rd in the NFL.
Hopkins has been up and down this year, with three games under 50 receiving yards and a pair over 125. I don’t think the Titans are going to give Levis a particularly long leash on pass attempts, but Hopkins is going to be option No. 1 on many of the designs, and he should have a nice game.
Prediction: DeAndre Hopkins over 53.5 receiving yards (-110 at FanDuel)
Prop Bet Pick: Steelers CB Patrick Peterson Over/Under 2.5 Combined Tackles
The matchup between Peterson and Hopkins used to be prime-time theater. Now both are later in their careers and it’s unknown how often Peterson will line up across from him.
It’s been a mediocre year for the 33-year-old Peterson, who has allowed 8.3 yards per target and a passer rating of 110.9 on throws his way in 2023.
But the new propensity to allow completions is a good thing when it comes to total tackles. Peterson is averaging nearly three per game this season, this despite missing seven of them in the first four games.
Quarterbacks have not been afraid to target him at this juncture in his career, and allowing completions means more tackle attempts. Assisted tackles also count, so Peterson could also get a cheap one if Derrick Henry bounces outside on a rushing attempt and Peterson is there to join in on the takedown.
P2 has never been known for his tackling prowess, but he should get three combined tackles against the Titans.
Prediction: Patrick Peterson over 2.5 tackles (-175 at DraftKings)
Prop Bet Pick: Titans RB Derrick Henry Over/Under 17.5 Rushing Attempts
The formula has been pretty simple this season: in all of the Titans’ three wins, Henry has carried the ball at least 22 times.
In their four losses, he has yet to reach 16 rushing attempts.
So that tells us that game script is an important factor in a wager like this, and seeing as the Titans are underdogs, it makes the under the potential play.
But I am projecting a bucking of that pattern tonight. The Titans don’t want to put too much on Levis’ plate, especially knowing that a pass-rush that includes T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Cameron Heyward and Markus Golden is ready to get after him.
If this game remains close, Tennessee will want to pound the rock and keep Pittsburgh at bay. The Steelers are allowing 4.5 yards per carry this season and Henry is one of the best running backs in the NFL.
Feed the beast.
