Online Sports Betting In Kentucky Will Launch On September 28

Online sports betting in Kentucky will launch at 6 a.m. ET on September 28, as residents of the state will be able to place wagers from their mobile devices.
Retail sports betting was enacted on September 7 and now anyone within the state borders can join in on the action by downloading sportsbook apps and making bets on their phones.
Bettors in Kentucky have been able to pre-register with online sportsbooks since September 7, but there is expected to be a rush of registrations now that mobile sports betting will be legalized and live on September 28.
There are eight top sportsbook apps that have been given the authority to launch on September 28:
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
- BetMGM
- Penn (ESPN Bet)
- Bet365
- Circa
- Fanatics
- Caesars
The state of Kentucky will allow permits for up to 30 mobile betting apps, so it could be a crowded market eventually, but these are the more established sportsbooks that are expected to get the majority of the registrations, at least at the start.
The legalization of online sports betting comes in time for the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. Kentucky doesn’t have an NFL team in its state, but there are many supporters of professional teams, highlighted by the Cincinnati Bengals, who play across the border in Ohio.
The Bengals will face off against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and Kentucky bettors will be able to place a variety of bets on that matchup, including the spread, moneyline, scoring total and prop bet wagers.
College basketball is huge in Kentucky and the season is not far away. Residents of Kentucky will soon be able to wager on the University of Kentucky and its prestigious hoops program, as well as the University of Louisville.
March Madness is always a major betting event and Kentuckians will now have the opportunity to gamble on their hometown teams.
The Kentucky Derby is arguably the most famous horse race in the world and bettors will assuredly be interested in wagering on that as well when it comes around in May.
