NFL Betting: Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow Favorites to Win Comeback Player of the Year
Season-ending injuries to Aaron Rodgers and Joe Burrow torpedoed the championship hopes of the Jets and Bengals in 2023.
Both should be ready to go for the start of 2024, and a good season could bring some hardware along with Super Bowl contention.
Rodgers has opened as the favorite to win the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year at DraftKings, while Burrow is not far behind. The top four candidates are all quarterbacks that suffered season-ending injuries last season.
Favorites To Win NFL Comeback Player of the Year
- Aaron Rodgers +100
- Joe Burrow +200
- Kirk Cousins +500
- Anthony Richardson +750
- Russell Wilson +1200
- Deshaun Watson +1500
- Nick Chubb +2000
- Tank Dell +2500
- Daniel Jones +2500
- Justin Herbert +2500
Rodgers played just four offensive snaps in his first season with the Jets before going down with a ruptured Achilles. He is 40 years old and will need to bounce back, but if he plays well, missing practically all of last season will make him a natural candidate to win Comeback Player of the Year.
Burrow fought through a calf injury in the 2023 preseason, and that injury affected him during a slow start. He started to find his groove, but a wrist injury ended his season on November 16th. The Bengals have been perennial Super Bowl contenders the past few years, and a return to that status could make Burrow the favorite.
Kirk Cousins missed the final nine games of 2023 with a torn Achilles and will aim for a strong comeback with his new team, the Falcons. Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson played in only four games as a rookie before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
Russell Wilson tops the list of Comeback Player of the Year candidates who did not suffer a major injury in 2023. He will instead look to turn things around with the Steelers after a disastrous stint with the Broncos.
Justin Herbert is one of the most talented candidates on the list, but is a longshot because some may not consider him worthy of Comeback Player of the Year because he played in 13 games in 2023 before suffering a season-ending broken finger.
There are a number of longshot candidates on the initial list unveiled by DraftKings. Many suffered season-ending injuries but would really need to excel in order to trump high-profile candidates like Rodgers and Burrow for the award.
