Next Team Odds: Justin Fields, Kirk Cousins Listed as Most Likely Quarterbacks To End Up With Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons are one of the teams with a clear need for a quarterback in 2024.
Unlike the Bears, for instance, there is no clear-cut answer as the new league year approaches.
Atlanta could acquire a signal-caller through any of the three avenues of roster-building: trade, free agency, or the draft.
Here is a look at the likelihood of eight different quarterbacks landing with the Falcons, via the next team and draft odds over at DraftKings sportsbook.
Odds to Join Atlanta Falcons In 2024
- Justin Fields -120
- Kirk Cousins +300
- Michael Penix +475
- J.J. McCarthy +550
- Russell Wilson +600
- Jayden Daniels +750
- Bo Nix +1000
- Caleb Williams +2000
Here is a quick breakdown of the options.
The Favorite
Justin Fields (-120 at DraftKings): Fields is the odds-on favorite to land with the Falcons, especially as Russell-Wilson-to-the-Steelers picks up steam. This makes sense, as the Bears are likely to trade Fields in order to take Caleb Williams No. 1 overall, and Atlanta could bank on a sure thing at quarterback instead of taking the fourth-best quarterback prospect at No. 8 overall.
The Falcons have some pieces to win-now, but the quarterback position is holding them back. Maybe Justin Fields ends up being the answer. The oddsmakers believe this is the most likely pairing.
The Top Contenders
Kirk Cousins (+300): Cousins is listed at -200 to return to the Vikings, and it would not be a surprise to see that happen. However, there has been a lot of chatter about Minnesota attempting to move up in the draft and land a rookie signal-caller.
If that happens, the Falcons could be the destination, as they have the best odds among teams other than Minnesota to add Cousins. While he is coming off a serious Achilles injury and is 35 years old, Cousins is the best quarterback on the free agent market and could springboard the Falcons into contention, so the interest would make sense.
Michael Penix, Jr. (+475): Projections are all over for the Washington quarterback. Penix had a great 2023 but is an older prospect and has dealt with some major injuries in his career. He isn’t expected to go into the top-10, but if the Falcons want to take a shot on him on Day 2 or trade up late into the first round, it would seem doable.
J.J. McCarthy (+550): McCarthy’s stock is rising of late. Could the Falcons actually take him with their first-round pick? It seems unlikely, but that is reflected in these odds. Like Penix, the Falcons could make a trade to grab the Michigan quarterback, or see if he is available when they pick at No. 43 in the second round.
Russell Wilson (+600): The Broncos will likely release Wilson within the next few weeks, but former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson and others have said that Russ is most likely to land with the Steelers. The betting markets reflect it, as they are the odds-on favorites.
If that falls through, the Falcons could very much be in play, especially because Wilson would cost much less than Kirk Cousins.
Jayden Daniels (+750): This is an interesting one. Daniels is projected to be the third quarterback taken. If the Patriots aren’t sold on Daniels at No. 3 overall, could the Falcons make a move up from No. 8?
Daniels has a similar play-style to Justin Fields and would seem to fit in with the existing skill players in Atlanta. It’s hard to forecast a potential trade in the draft, but the Spidey Senses are tingling here.
The Longshots
Bo Nix (+1000): There is buzz around Nix heading to a team like Denver, potentially in the middle of the first round. Top-10 seems steep and it’s unclear if his style would be a match for the type of scheme that Atlanta plans to run under new coach Raheem Morris.
Caleb Williams (+2000): This is a 20-to-1 shot in the dark for good reason, as the USC star is a humongous favorite to go No. 1 overall to the Bears. The only realistic scenario is a blockbuster trade in which the Falcons sell the farm to land Williams.
