Next Head Coach Odds: Jim Harbaugh Favored to Leave Michigan, Join Los Angeles Chargers

On Monday, the oddsmakers at Draftkings thought Jim Harbaugh was most likely to stay at Michigan for the 2024 season.
That thinking has changed.
Harbaugh met with the Los Angeles Chargers this week and they are now listed with -150 odds to have his head coaching services next year. Those odds sat at +135 on Monday.
Harbaugh is fresh off a national championship with the Wolverines and has flirted with a return to the NFL each of the past two seasons.
While remaining at Michigan is still very much on the table, it is no longer the favorite. Harbaugh had -300 odds to return to the Wolverines as of Monday morning.
Here are the full odds for where Jim Harbaugh will be the head coach in 2024, as of January 16th:
- Los Angeles Chargers -150
- Not the Head Coach of an NFL Team +100
- Any Other NFL Team +800
- Las Vegas Raiders +1200
- Washington Commanders +2500
- Atlanta Falcons +3000
- Chicago Bears +4000
- Tennessee Titans +4500
- Carolina Panthers +6000
- New York Jets +10000
- New York Giants +10000
- New Orleans Saints +10000
Harbaugh looked into both the Broncos and Vikings openings in the past two years but ended up returning to Michigan each time.
The Chargers have an intriguing job because Justin Herbert is one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. Harbaugh found great success during his stint with the San Francisco 49ers and has won at every stop he has made, whether it be on the college or professional level.
J.J. McCarthy, the standout quarterback for Michigan, declared for the draft recently, leading some to speculate that Harbaugh is leaving the program.
The momentum seems to be pushing toward a move back to the NFL by accepting the Chargers’ gig, but as we all know, these things can change quickly, so this saga may not be over quite yet.
The odds are constantly moving on next coach odds like these and NFL bettors can get some good value if they sniff out reality before it comes to fruition.
