Houston Texans Wins Betting: Under 4.5 is the play
The Bill O’Brien era in Houston will go down as a missed opportunity. It looks a lot like he was a pretty good coach but being elevated to GM status in addition to his coaching duties didn't exactly work well. His decision to trade away DeAndre Hopkins was widely derided at the time and following an 0-4 start to the 2020 season, his time was up.
With one of the very best QBs at their disposal over the past few seasons, the fact Deshaun Watson only has two playoff victories to his name - including that insane game against the Buffalo Bills in the Wildcard round at the end of the 2019 season - must be seen as quite the disappointment.
It looks for all money as though the Deshaun Watson era in Houston is coming to an end. The player wants out and the addition of all these civil lawsuits being filed against him will make the NFL nervous.
So it looks highly unlikely he’ll play any part in this upcoming season for the Texans. The team went and signed Tyrod Tayor in the off-season surely with the expectation that he’ll be the starting QB going into their 2021 campaign.
The 31-year-old started out as the Chargers number one QB a year ago before a freak incident saw the team doctor puncture his lung when trying to administer a pain killing injection. That is one of the weirdest ways I’ve ever seen to lose a starting job. For this upcoming season though, the question is how can he step in and help his new team?
Since arriving in the league out of Virginia Tech, the sixth-round pick has struggled to be anything more than an average QB. His best seasons came in Buffalo where he started 43 games in a span of three years. He’s yet to throw for more than 20 touchdowns in a season and it is fair to say that he will not be the most sought after in fantasy leagues this year.
With the Texans not having a first-round pick in 2021 - their number three pick overall went to the Miami Dolphins as part of the Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills trade (and has subsequently been moved on to the San Francisco 49ers) - so it isn’t as though he’s going to be a bridge QB either.
The top names will all surely be gone by the time new Texans GM Nick Caserio makes his first selection. It looks highly improbable that they even have the draft capital to move into the first round to pick up someone like Trey Lance or Justin Fields - who may be available towards the middle of the first round. So if they are going to draft their QB of the future it may be the likes of Kyle Trask or Kellen Mond.
JJ Watt also negotiated his release in the off season. So with their best defensive player gone, their best offensive player highly unlikely to play, the 2021 season looks to be a really tough one for Houston Texans fans. Nick Caserio comes highly recommended but this team is going to crater before they can be rebuilt. Anything more than two or three wins in 2021 would be worthy of a round of applause. The early number is set at 4.5 wins and that seems like a big under play. Tha number is currently available at BetRivers in Illinois.
