Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers: Week 4 TNF Predictions, Picks and Odds 9/28/23
The Detroit Lions will be in an unfamiliar role when they travel to Green Bay for a Thursday Night Football showdown with the Packers in Week 4: they will actually be the favorites.
Detroit has been the underdog in every game at Lambeau Field since 1986 when the Packers played their starting quarterback, but that will change this week.
The Lions are slight 1-point favorites in this NFC North clash in the first matchup since Aaron Rodgers left for the Jets. Odds courtesy of BetMGM on September 26th.
Spead: Lions -1
Moneyline: Lions -120; Packers +100
Over/Under: 43 points
Both teams are 2-1 on the season and the winner will have the early leg up on the divisional crown since both the Vikings and Bears are 0-3.
Jordan Love and Jared Goff have both been solid this season and the superior quarterback play in this game will likely lead their team to victory.
The Packers have the better defense but I think Detroit’s playmakers will do enough to squeak out the win.
Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Prediction
Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers Betting Prediction
These look like two pretty evenly-matched teams, and the point spread reflects it. The Packers have traditionally been the dominant team in the division but the hapless Lions can finally change that with a strong 2023.
Both teams were banged up last week so keep an eye on the injury report to see which key players will be missing and available.
The Lions just feel like a more well-rounded team, with multiple ways to move the ball on offense. Love was a bit erratic against a good New Orleans Saints defense last week, and while this matchup is easier, a turnover or two could really swing the outcome.
I envision the veteran Goff making fewer mistakes and helping the Lions to the win in dramatic fashion on a last-second field goal.
Prediction: Lions 20, Packers 17
Prop Bet Pick: Lions QB Jared Goff Over/Under 258.5 Passing Yards
Goff has averaged 273 passing yards per game and Detroit has some strong weapons on offense, led by star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The Packers have the No. 10 defense in DVOA and have good talent at every level. Star cornerback Jaire Alexander missed last week with a back injury and his situation is one to watch.
The Lions like to throw but with rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs coming on strong I could see a more balanced approach in this one.
Part of this wager also has to do with my feeling that the Lions will never be far behind in this game, and the play-calling can remain on-script instead of going pass-happy.
I don’t think we will see a shootout in this one and like Goff to have a middling passing yardage total against a strong Green Bay defense.
Prediction: Jared Goff under 258.5 Passing Yards (-115 at DraftKings)
