Cincinnati Bengals’ Super Bowl Odds Drop Like a Rock After Joe Burrow’s Season-Ending Injury
Joe Burrow is done for the year, and so too are the Bengals’ realistic chances at winning the Super Bowl.
Cincinnati (5-5) was still one of the favorites to win this year’s championship despite a slow start, but that has been erased with the news that its star quarterback is out for the season with a wrist injury.
The Bengals had +1600 odds to win the Super Bowl earlier this week and are now 150/1 longshots to claim it, according to BetMGM on November 17th.
For comparison sake, they used to be in the same range odds-wise as teams like the Jaguars, Lions and Bills, and are now down near the Falcons, Buccaneers, Jets and Raiders.
Here is an updated look at the nine main Super Bowl contenders, as some of the teams in the AFC should have a better shot now that one of their chief competitors has been de facto eliminated.
- San Francisco 49ers +450
- Kansas City Chiefs +450
- Philadelphia Eagles +500
- Baltimore Ravens +900
- Miami Dolphins +900
- Dallas Cowboys +1200
- Detroit Lions +1200
- Jacksonville Jaguars +1600
- Buffalo Bills +2200
The Bengals made it to the Super Bowl two seasons ago and the AFC Championship Game last year and had designs of winning the championship, but that idea is squashed without Burrow.
He was a leading candidate to win MVP and obviously he won’t be taking home that hardware.
Here is a look at the MVP favorites at BetMGM following the news of Burrow’s season-ending injury.
- Patrick Mahomes +275
- Jalen Hurts +275
- Lamar Jackson +450
- Tua Tagovailoa +550
- C.J. Stroud +1800
- Josh Allen +2500
- Dak Prescott +2500
- Christian McCaffrey +2500
- Brock Purdy +2500
This big blow is also going to affect a variety of futures bets, including receiving yardage and Offensive Player of the Year odds for Ja’Marr Chase.
The superstar receiver was the favorite to win OPOY before the season but had fallen behind Tyreek Hill and Christian McCaffrey. This virtually eliminates him as Chase is not going to put up huge numbers with Jake Browning at quarterback.
This was a very unfortunate blow to the Bengals, who had extremely high hopes for 2023 but will now be looking toward 2024 because of the season-ending injury to Burrow.
