NFL Player Props: The Aaron Rodgers number is sky high

After plenty of twists and turns, Aaron Rodgers will return to Green Bay for the 2021 season.
After plenty of twists and turns, Aaron Rodgers will return to Green Bay for the 2021 season.
By Neil Monnery

The Sportsbooks have been keeping their Packers and Aaron Rodgers Prop Bet markets closed as they awaited news of whether they would be together this year. It looks like they will and they reckon 4600.5 passing yards is the right over/under for the QB. Neil Monnery thinks that might be a bit too high...

All off-season long we’ve been wondering what would be the conclusion of the Aaron Rodgers saga. Would he sit out the year? Would he force his way out of dodge and end up in Denver? Would he quit football and become the new full-time host of Jeopardy!?

Well none of those things came to fruition as it looks like for one (final?) time - Aaron Rodgers is going to suit up for the Green Bay Packers.

I don’t think anyone reading this will need any introduction to the future Hall of Famer. The 37 year-old has been the starting QB up in Green Bay since 2008 and has been the absolute model of consistency. Nine times he’s cleared the 4,000 yard mark through the air for the season.

What might be a little bit surprising is he’s only thrown for over 4,600 yards once in his storied career and that was back in 2011. With the 2021 campaign being 17 games rather than 16, that has surely helped push the Sportsbooks to that 4600.5 yard mark but it does just feel like that is a super high number

What Rodgers continues to have is good receiving options. Davante Adams is a superstar and their rapport is as good as anyone in the league. Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are both extremely talented players as well so you know he’s going to have extremely reliable targets to hit all over the field.

Aaron Jones is also a mighty fine Running Back, who will be a big part of the offense. With such a good player available to hand the ball off to, not everything will have to flow through Rodgers. When you get that situation you may well see yards through the air come down a little bit. I also wonder just how mentally ready he is for the upcoming season considering the goings on throughout the off-season.

It might not surprise you that I’m taking the under on this one. I don’t worry about his age or ability but 4600.5 yards is a high number for me. He has everything he needs to have another great year and take Green Bay deep but he might not need to do everything himself. It isn’t like Ty Montgomery is going to be pounding the rock.

Take the under.

Pick: Under on the Aaron Rodgers passing yards market (4600.5 yards) at -112
