WNBA Finals Game Two Betting Predictions: Courtney Vandersloot, A'ja Wilson, Jackie Young Player Prop Bets
After a game one that the Las Vegas Aces ran away with, carrying a 17 point victory away on their home court, they look to take another step towards becoming the first team in WNBA history to repeat as Champions since the Los Angeles Sparks two decades ago.
The Liberty hope to establish themselves in game two before the series heads back to Barclays Center in Brooklyn for game three and potentially four.
The Aces are 5 point favorites, per DraftKings Sportsbook, with -218 odds on the moneyline. The Liberty have +180 moneyline odds to pull the upset. The scoring total is set at 171.5.
Here are three player prop bets in addition to the regular betting odds.
Courtney Vandersloot Over/Under 6.5 Assists
New York's starting backcourt struggled mightily on both ends in game one, and the Liberty need that to change to redirect the course of the series.
Vandersloot is electric getting downhill and essential to the Liberty creating easy offense and open shots. The Aces kept her out of her comfort zone, worked to make her an off-ball player, and were largely able to force her out of what makes her successful.
This is not dissimilar from what happened for the Liberty last series with the Sun. While I wouldn't guarantee a win, I think it's logical for the Liberty to bounce back offensively after making some adjustments to get Vandersloot into the teeth of the defense with more ease in game two.
Prediction: Courtney Vandersloot Over 6.5 Assists (-120)
A'ja Wilson Over/Under 21.5 Points
Wilson finished with 19 points on just 11 shot attempts from the field in the Aces' game one victory, her second lowest attempt total in the playoffs.
She's scored 20 or more in 15 of the 21 games she's played since the start of August.
As the Liberty look to slow down the Aces' offense in the halfcourt, I'd bet on Wilson getting more attempts on post possessions, off rebounds, and more trips to the line when fouled as a roller. With more bodies in the paint and extra help focused on Wilson, more free throws can boost that point total easily.
Prediction: A'ja Wilson Over 21.5 Points (-120)
Jackie Young Finals MVP Future (+650)
This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but the way Young asserted herself in game one with a playoff career high is extremely meaningful.
She was arguably the best player on the court in the first game of the Finals, and while she shot well from the field and deep, it wasn't an unsustainable level. What she did can be replicated, and is something the Liberty will be focused on trying to stop as they look to recoup an even series.
New York toggled through multiple defensive matchups and schemes attempting to slow Young down, and all failed in game one; she's too strong and quick for their back court. She's too willing and effective a shooter to leave alone at any point. She's too good a playmaker to give up drives to the paint. She is a matchup nightmare for the Liberty moving forward and at present.
Barring a massive turn in play, if the Aces were to win out the series, Young's game one and potential play is deserving of more shine than the 5th longest odds at Finals MVP. It's a worthy gamble.
