LeBron James Next Team Odds: Warriors, Cavaliers Favored if King James Leaves Lakers
LeBron James has an opt-out to become a free agent, and he’s been no stranger to switching teams in the past.
Will King James be on the move again this offseason?
It’s highly unlikely, according to DraftKings, as LeBron has been listed with -500 odds to stick with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2024-25 season, as of May 6th.
While other teams are darkhorses, there are some intriguing destinations among the top options if he does leave the Lakers.
A pairing with Stephen Curry leads the way, as LeBron James has +1400 odds to join the Golden State Warriors, while a career swan song back home with the Cleveland Cavaliers has the same odds.
Here is a list of the top-10 potential landing spots for LeBron James, which can be wagered on at DraftKings.
LeBron James Next Team Odds
- Los Angeles Lakers -500
- Golden State Warriors +1400
- Cleveland Cavaliers +1400
- Philadelphia 76ers +1800
- New York Knicks +2500
- Miami Heat +2500
- Dallas Mavericks +2500
- Phoenix Suns +4000
- Oklahoma City Thunder +4000
- Denver Nuggets +4500
- San Antonio Spurs +4500
The Warriors supposedly were interested in adding James at the trade deadline, and joining forces with a Golden State team trying to squeeze out one more championship with its core would be intriguing.
James used to be vocal about playing on the same team as his son, Bronny James, in the NBA, but that no longer seems to be the case. Bronny struggled in his first season at USC, and while he is currently enrolled in the draft, he still has time to pull his name out and return to college.
If Bronny does stay in the draft, it will be interesting to see if a team takes him just as a chip to potentially lure LeBron to their city.
A team that holds intrigue is the Phoenix Suns. They are lacking a great passing ball-handler, and LeBron would fit that bill. Phoenix has Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, but are fresh off a first-round playoff loss to the T-Wolves in which the Suns didn’t win a single game.
A team like the Mavericks could be in play since James and Kyrie Irving have often talked about teaming up together again, while Luke Doncic’s presence would take the focus off James for the first time in his career.
There has been reporting that LeBron is expected to re-sign with the Lakers, which is why the odds are so strong. But some of the other options make sense, and then there are some extreme longshots that would pay off really nicely if he goes an unexpected route and signs with a darkhorse.
