Klay Thompson Next Team Odds: Orlando Magic a Strong Suitor, Golden State Warriors Still the Favorite

Klay Thompson may not be the same star of yesteryear, but the veteran sharpshooter can still be an asset in an NBA team’s push to contend.

The 34-year-old guard is entering unrestricted free agency this offseason, and DraftKings has unveiled Next Team Odds on where he could land.

The only team Thompson has ever played for, the Golden State Warriors, are the odds-on favorites to retain him, although the Orlando Magic could be true competition after reported mutual interest between the sides.

The Magic can open up nearly $60 million in cap space to attract a free agent after finishing 47-35 this season.

Here is a look at the eight teams with +2000 odds or shorter to add Klay Thompson this offseason, which can be gambled on at DraftKings.

Thompson averaged 17.9 points per game on 43.2% from the field and 38.7% from three-point range last season, all of which were among his worst marks as a professional.

Thompson has returned from ACL and Achilles injuries but has not looked like the same player as during his prime.

Even so, he is a threat from beyond the arc who can space the floor, and could have a couple more seasons of quality basketball left in him.

The Warriors went 46-36 last season and it’s fair to wonder if it’s time to start tweaking the roster after a dominant run that resulted in four championships. Thompson was a major part of that, so it would make sense for Golden State to bring him back, but Orlando or another suitor may choose to offer him more money.

It’s going to be an interesting offseason for both Thompson and the Warriors. The Splash Brothers redefined basketball and Stephen Curry is set to stay with the Warriors for at least a couple more seasons, but it remains to be seen if Thompson will be with him in 2024-25.
